I have been to UCSC for a quarter and I withdrew, but I can readmit without having to go through the competitive application process. I’m also close to UCSC.
My goal is to go to UCSC for the 2019-2020 school year and apply to transfer to UCD so that I can start in the 2020-2021 school year. Basically, I would be at UCSC for a year and at UCD for 2 years. I’m a biochemical engineering major, so I have a lot of classes that I have to take and I’m just trying to spread them out rather than cram. Would this be possible?
I know that i would be able to still be establish my residency at UCD and there are no finanicial concerns.
I know I need to talk to a counselor about this, but just wondering if anyone has done this.
Why don’t you finish your courses at a community college and then transfer to UCD? Much easier to apply to a CC then to be readmitted to UCSC. Did you take a leave of absence or did you just withdraw from UCSC? Have you been working since leaving UCSC so you can establish CA residency?
There’s only one class that I can take that is offered at my CC. My other option is to apply at UCD this fall and be at UCD for 3 years, but I’d rather be at UCSC for one of those years because I can commute to UCSC and not have to worry about housing because I live with my parents. With UCSC, I’ll have the Cal Grant to cover my tuition and the other fees (parking, registarion, books) can easily be covered by a couple scholarships.
I also like the idea of a UCSC because it gets me used to the quarter system. my CC is semester.
The thing is, I’m not sure if I’d have to pretend to change my major because I was a biomolecular engineer while I was there, but with UCD’s biochemical engineering major, I need to take similar classes to biochemistry, but I’d take all my engineering classes at UCD (72 units).
You are making a huge assumption that Davis is going to accept you. Most of the STEM’s are impacted.
Getting into Davis is not as easy as you think; Just because you attended Santa Cruz does not mean you can slide over to Davis.
Also, you are assuming that your Financial aid will be the same at Davis; one size does not fit all. Each school (UC’s included) has its own method of distributing financial aid. Have you read the Calgrant rules? http://www.csac.ca.gov/post/cal-grant-faq-0
You will spend more time having to meet requirements both for admission and FA, and Davis’s preference will be freshman and CC transfers, in that order. Why do you need to graduate from Davis?
Also, if you were to apply fall 2019 you’d need 60+ units by spring of that year, your letter of reciprocity + GEs done, and most importantly all major prerequisites.
As a transfer student your financial aid may not be the same. I don’t think there are scholarships for non-CCC transfers. I could be wrong but if there are they’re extremely competitive.
The issue you might have is that a UC-UC Transfer has no break regarding unit caps. Engineering has a lot of requirements and UCD has a unit cap of 80 semester units/120 quarter. All your units will count (except any AP). Keep in mind Silicon Valley recruits from UCSC. You might be better off staying.
