Hello !
I’m a current undergrad bio chem major student at UCR , it’s my first quarter here and it’s a lovely school. Unfortunately I realized too late that bio chem is not for me and that chemical engineering would be better fit. I tried to switch majors but my advisor said no , no transfer students can go to the college of engineering . So… I’m stuck with this major. I’m taking 11 quarter units and I am going through the most frustrating stage in my education journey . I would like to know if I can apply to other schools (UC’s preferably) for Fall 2020 and in the meantime take some courses at my community college which I attended before going to UCR during the spring. I would only have to take a couple math classes since all my Chem, Calculus and gen Ed’s are complete .
Now my questions are : Would I stand a chance? My gpa is pretty good and I got into ucr without factoring in the A that I got in OChem last semester at ccc .
Would I be considered a UC -UC transfer if I’m going to take some classes at ccc ? Can I apply to the same school but with a different major ? Granted I’ve never failed a class, i only have two w’s and I really want to give chem engineering a shot . Any help would be greatly appreciated !
I would post this in the UC transfer forum.
Moving.
If you can drop with all Ws, do it, go back for a year to CCC and apply this fall, assuming you have req for new major met. You may even be able to TAG (check on that).
If you can’t get Ws, keep in mind they add all UC units on top of the CCC units. They will add them even on top of capped units so if you reach 70 at a CCC, they will be added on top of that, which could put you near unit ceilings.
Thank you for responding .
So you are suggesting that I withdraw from all courses rn at UCR and apply right now before the deadline which is the 30th for Fall 2020 ? Would I be considered a UC or CCC transfer though ? Because I know that ccc has priority. Would I be able to still apply to ucr and will the ws be counted towards units? Thank you and the reason why I came here is bc my advisor doesn’t seem to know anything about this topic and I don’t know who to go to .
Talk to the admission office, not your advisor. You need to meet with a transfer counselor. See https://admissions.ucr.edu/contact or just walk over and see if you can make an appt to talk with them.
The best scenario would be you withdraw from UCR and they consider you a CCC transfer student again. You then go take the prerequisites you are missing at your old CCC. But the people that know if that is possible are in UCR admissions.
While I’m not sure about this, if you instead just withdraw from your classes (which is different from withdrawing from UCR entirely) then you may still be considered a UC student, just one with zero units at UC. Which would put you in a different category for transfer, and you definitely can’t transfer from a UC to the same UC.
