I am a junior BME at Case Western Reserve University. I spent the last summer doing research at Case in the neurosciences department (submitted a significant research proposal, was funded by the university, wrote a final report including behavioral data, and will be presenting at a local research-based conference) - all in all, very similar to an REU or SURF experience. Prior to that, I did a summer of clinical research in my hometown.

I'm a little worried that I haven't done "enough" research. I am not currently working in the lab and I do not expect to be published. I am busy next semester with an on-campus organization that I am leading, working as a teaching assistant, taking my usual classes, and studying for the MCAT, so I am not sure about what research I can take on in addition. I am passionate about the neuro research that I did, but I was brought into the lab to complete one specific project and I did so. Should I be looking for another summer opportunity to showcase my research abilities? I've heard that as long as you can speak passionately about what you've done, it's not as important to have a publication. Is this true?

I have very good ECs, anticipating a good MCAT score, and have volunteering/shadowing experience as well.

Thanks!
