does anyone know if it’s better to use the same songs from your prescreen in your audition or to pick new ones? the school says students aren’t required to use the same songs but may do so if preferred, and i can’t tell if they have any preference. i’d be happy to do either one, but would picking one over the other come across better to the panel? thank you !
If they’re giving you the choice, go with what you think is the best representation of your talent. Sometimes people get tired of their prescreen songs, or no longer feel they’re the best fit. These schools give you the opportunity to change things up.
However, if you still think you’re totally rocking your prescreen song, don’t feel like you need to change it up to please them.
You want them to see the best version of you, so decide what that is at the time of your audition. Don’t underestimate your confidence in yourself, regardless of what you sing. It’s not all about the song, it’s also about how you present yourself.
My student was taught by an acting coach that it’s not just the school auditioning you; you are also auditioning the school to see if you’d be a good fit there. That perspective helped my student’s confidence in auditions and helped mitigate the worry about just pleasing the auditioners.
Best of luck!
thank you so much, this is really helpful. i was wondering if they had any sort of preference, but seeing it as an opportunity to present my work makes sm sense, thanks !
