Hi,

I want to take HUM 3, 4, 5 at a community college this summer. Does anyone know what community colleges offer those classes this summer that can forfill the Hum 3,4,5 requirements? Thanks!

applause

i searched assist.org and all the community colleges within reachable distance from my house. Most of them have the courses during the regular school year but not during the summer. Are there specific community colleges that have those courses during the summer that anyonw knows about?

the offerings are always slightly more limited during than summer than the regular school year (this is standard for all institutions, not just CCs). best to do your picking carefully and go to the CC websites to double-check.

is there any curve within sections for hum? i’m taking hum2 right now, and my ta implicitly stated he/she doesn’t give a’s on papers. i received an A in hum1, and from what i gathered in my section, i’ve been performing at the top of my section thus far (which is like B/B+ish). i feel like the standard that my section’s being held to is much higher than those of other sections.

i can’t afford receiving some form of a B in the class, so i’m wondering whether i should drop this course, or is there hope that the ta will have some form of a curve in the end?..i tried talking to the ta about this, but he/she wouldn’t explicitly address the question…PLEASE ADVISE!

bump…bump…bump…

anyone, please?

When I took Hum, they normalized the grades throughout all sections so yes, technically there was a curve. This was about 5 years ago though, so you might want to double check with your professor to see if he/she has the same policy. And if he/she doesn’t curve, try to explain to him/her your situation in office hours or after class. Either way I don’t think you should drop the class because I think a B+ is still a great grade and Hum 2 is way too painful to go through again. But that’s just my opinion. Good luck!

dropping because of a B in a GE class would be useless. Its a waste of time and money. I wouldn’t even drop with a B in an upper div major class unless it depends on Honors or something

thanks for the help! well, i talked to the professor earlier, and the professor says he/she has no control over grades. bboyvortex, when you mean “normalize,” do you mean like every ta gives out some kind of bell-curve distribution of grades to the students in his/her section?

I’m not exactly sure how they do it, but when they “normalize” the grades, I guess they look at all the grades from all the sections and account for the different difficulties of the TA’s. So the grades aren’t based on a set straight-forward scale. Maybe try to talk to your TA again about clarification in grading? And if he/she doesn’t tell you how it works, maybe contact another TA from the same class. Hope this helps.
