i'm considering transferring out of ucsc where i am a freshman and going to a community college for a year. after that i am considering going back to a uc (maybe davis, sd, irvine) for my junior year. what are the pros and cons of doing this? will the fact that i have already attended a uc affect my chances for getting into another one? should i just stay at ucsc and try transferring from there?

b.u.m.p this

I don't see any advantage unless you have a personal situation that requires you to be close to home, you need to save money, or you're flunking out. Why are you thinking of doing this?

Do you know what you will major in at the final university? If so, can you take the prescribed transfer course series at the community college and have guaranteed admission into the program that you want?

nope, i don't know my major and i might be at risk at flunking out. however i know i can just pass these classes if i just worked my ass off, but that's not coming to frution; i have no interest in them and not motivated.

also the hippie scene isn't doing it for me.

You need to get yourself into an environment where you feel motivated to do the work necessary in order to succeed in your classes. A community college may be the best choice for you right now, as you would be able to explore a number of different possible majors while you get your distribution requirements out of the way at a cheaper tuition rate. From my observation, good community colleges also have good career and transfer planning offices that can help you figure out what to do with your life.

You should also think seriously about working for a semester or a year while you are pondering career plans. Then when you go back to school you will have a clearer goal. If you know what you want to do, you will be able to maintain your focus even if the "hippie scene" (or whatever your college environment turns out to be) doesn't do it for you.

Wishing you all the best.

Is it too late to apply to transfer to UCI, UCD or UCSD for sophomore year?

^yes, it's too late

bump...thanks for responses! any more?
