Review of Communications School?

I visited BU on a campus tour over the summer and loved it, but was not able to go inside the communications school. I follow the comm account on twitter, and it seems like the graduates have some success. However, a superior in the Broadcasting field informed me her daughter attended BU for Comm and was dissatisfied with the internships. Are the internships bad? How soon do courses start in the department? All around review for the department? Also what are my chances of getting in? (BU is my reach school and I’m still waiting)
GPA: 3.6 UW
3 AP classes: APUSH AP English Lit, and AP Government and Politics
Several honors courses

Drama Club Representative
1st team All Academy Cross Country (Senior year, member 4 years)
Thanks!

BU is big in Hollywood, the most internships are there and they have a program there. There is a new dean of the Comm school who is the one who started the New York Times Website ( one of the most visited in the world) He promises to take the Comm school into the new millennium and push Mass media and social media marketing and communication, where all programs would want to go I imagine

BU COM alum here. As the poster mentioned above, BU’s biggest item with Film & TV is the LA Internship program, where students are given the opportunity to live in Los Angeles and have several internships in the industry. Several of my friends did the program (and live there now) - and had internships at major advertising agencies, production houses, and film studios.

I was an ad major, so I can’t speak too specifically about Film/TV internships. However, what I will say is the BU’s name is very reputable across the globe with the COM program. They do a good job with finding cool programs for you. At the same time, no one is going to hold your hand. It’s up to you to get the grades and do the work.

Everyone in COM is required to take the same two intro courses, as well as fill some liberal arts requirements. I’d say you would start your first film/tv class first semester sophomore year. However, you can get a jump on things right away by joining a film/tv club as a freshman! There are tons to choose.
