I wanted to get feedback from those who have utilized C2 education for their SAT prep.
They seem very expensive and don't seem to provide any score guarantee but in our area I see many students enrolling for their program. Some have paid thousands of dollars for their training packages. My child has mostly done SAT prep at home utilizing the collegeboard blue book, Barrons, Grubers, Chung, and Direct hits. Given that she is scoring consistently 300 points higher at home (above a 2100) then on the actual test I am wondering what next steps she can take to try to improve her score. We have put Rocket review on hold at the library and are waiting for that.

if your daughter is consistently scoring over 2100, C2 would be a horrible choice. I would recommend her to continue self-studying. These prep services are just for kids who are scoring in the 1500-1800. If you’re above the 2000s, these prep services would just be a waste of money. My advice would be to just let her self-study. :p

Thanks for your advice. My concern was more how to address the fact that she is scoring 2100 at home but on the actual test she scores much lower. (1800) At the end the colleges want her official scores not how she scores at home. For example at home she gets about 2 maximum 3 wrong in the math section however on the real test that was not the case she scored a 660. She is saying she doesn’t have test anxiety since she has done practice tests at home.
My intuition keeps telling me she should keep practicing, review the ones she got wrong and try to understand how to arrive at the correct answer.
All her training that she has done has been with me giving her some direction as far as what books to use and she is self disciplined. I have just helped her with developing a timeline so she knows how much material she wants to cover each week.
It is easy to get swayed by family and friends who think we are crazy for not spending money for expensive SAT prep. In our area private tutoring is $150 to $200/hr which is a lot. Makes me wonder if my daughter is missing out on something if she is not doing private tutoring. My issue with prep centers is that often they are using the same materials that my daughter has already used at home to prepare.

Did she take the test at home in one sitting?

What is the point change per section from the official?

Private tutors are worth the money if the tutor can get you to the next level. However, the industry is not regulated and the quality can vary madly.

Classes are often a waste of time.

Self study is required no matter how you choose to prepare.

Sorry, we used C2 Education’s at services at their Center in DAVIE, FLORIDA to prepare our son and what the Administration/Management promises when they want to sale you the tutoring services is very different to what they offer, as a consequence the results do not back up what they promised and what you paid for. Very unstable learning environment, teacher turnaround which results on constant changes of teachers or lack of continuity on a student’s weak points, some tutors are not true teachers or not properly prepared, just because they pass a C2 Teacher Education test does not make them a tutoring professional. It takes special knowledge and skills to be a Tutor. They promise College Counseling, but they do not truly provide that service, it’s just a way of marketing their product to fill your eyes…then they don’t deliver…the results are horrible and disappointing for all the money you invest, and who feels the true impact, the student. I don’t recommend C2 Education in Davie Florida to anyone, don’t waste your money, it’s not worth it.

Worst of all, when you report them to the BBB or other Consumer Protection Agencies, they change the story and state that you went to their office for the FCAT instead of the SAT. If a student is a High School Senior, when they and their parents make the decision to go to C2 and pay the enormous amount of money (or the investment) we paid, it’s to improve our son’s SAT scores so they can increase their probabilities of entering a Florida State University.

IME the C2 Diagnostic SAT is a little harder than the real SAT. I got a 1780 on the practice one. On the May 4th SAT, however, I got a 1940. I think I signed up in December or something and only went like 2 times a week, so I didn’t get much practice. Furthermore, most of the time I just did my HW in C2 ('cause I procrastinate at home). I’m almost certain the diagnostic test is harder because C2 wants you to THINK your score improved drastically.

As for the actual practice sheets, they aren’t very good.

I’m in 8th grade, and I already got to the red CR level. That’s the highest level, and I’m above most of the juniors at my C2, I believe. On the worksheets I only miss about 2 vocab out of like 25, and I usually ace all the reading comprehension questions. When the May SAT came, there was no doubt in my mind that I was going to score AT LEAST a 700. But then, bam–a 620, right in my face. I did however, get only 3 SCs wrong, so at least the vocab lessons work.

IMO math doesn’t really cover the same topics on the SAT; I got a 670 in Math, which is okay, I guess, but two of my friends scored 720 and 740 without any practice.

The writing practice is pathetic. It’s so easy that I don’t even do the worksheets at all.

So basically C2 SAT Prep sucks unless you have below a 1700 on the SAT. The only reason I still do it is because I go there for school help, and I have to finish the course, or else my parents will yell at me (they don’t like to waste money).

This is my experience with C2. I saw their smart looking Website and contact one of the learning Center in Lorton, Virginia. They seem very friendly and They boast about higher Scores and have their own curriculum.
The truth is, They don’t have a specific teaching method or different curriculum. They just review questions from previous year SAT exams. They don’t even have certified teachers. Reviewing previous year exams can be done by the student alone. No need to pay over $50 per hour for just doing practice questions.
After spending thousand of dollars and getting no significant result, I asked them to cancel at least some of my hours. The Manager for the Lorton Center advised me to check with corporate since it is beyond her responsibility. I tried calling numbers after numbers and left repeated messages, I got no response.
It is like money lost over nothing. They are very smart in their contract. They work with some credit company and once you signed, there is no way out even though they don’t deliver what they have promised.
I found C2 totally different as to what they claim they are. What a loss!

I’m doing it right now and I agree that the diagnostic test is a lot harder. I took a blue book test today and got a 770 in math. I took a second diagnostic test at C2 and got a 670 in math. The teachers are absolutely horrible, and there has been a lot of switching around. Honestly I wish my parents could have their $5,000 back.

I do not know if its to late or not but do not use C2 Education, its a rip off. You child is better off on their own. I paid over $12K to C2, they promise and promise with no warranty and when they notice I was not goiing to pay a penny more…they just wanted us to leave their center as soon as possible, we sensed it.

Hi, I went to the same exact situation with the C2 Education Center in Davie Florida. These C2 Education Centers are a rip-off. After almost $12K spend and false expectations, the C2 Education Your Center in Davie Florida clearly never understood high to manage teens that are normal standard teens, they were successful only with teens that needed very little preparation so they the C2 Center in Davie Florida can do their SHOW CASE and use their market selling techniques with desperate parents looking for a true solution to help their son/daughters increase their SAT scores. They take advantage of Parents in desperate need for help to their teens and who need to overcome the SAT challenges. Very, Very, Very poor experience with C2 Education in Davie Florida, it cost a lot of money, the investment and poor experience was not worth it. We are extremely disappointed with your C2 Education Center and Davie Florida.

If C2 Education did not work for you and they don’t want to stand behind what they promised, report their Corporate HQ to the Better Business Bureau. Below are the BBB C2 Education information and link is:

C2 is an effective choice for those who wish to improve their scores from a medium/ medium-high level. I am a junior looking to improve my score, and after just one month of tutoring, my practice tests have improved. The course is personalized focused on individual strengths and weaknesses and the tutors I have are well equipped to help me. Overall: pretty good.

My daughter is graduating in June. We did not enroll with C2 but know many that did. I think it all depends on the tutor you work with and how experienced they are. SAT is a business so as a buyer we need to do some homework and be well informed. I found that a bit of research, use of College confidential, and purchasing books from Amazon for self study was what suited us. Would definitely recommend future students to consider taking the ACT at least once because some kids tend to perform better on it.

C2 Davie Florida does a good job promising, marketing and selling the SAT Preparation product and the expected results, but the reality is completely opposite. They are good with students who already excel and for which they have to do very little to get them to the next level (or bump in the SAT scores), but they do not know or master the technique for those students that are standard or slight…ly below the medium level. They do a nice marketing and SHOWCASE job and know how to boast the high scores they supposedly get their SAT students to accomplish. Getting excelling students to bump their scores a little higher and making a show case when in reality you did really little, is not true RESULTS. True and honest results is when you work with a student through their struggles and challenges and you take them to the next level on their SAT score, next level means a significant improvement to a Student’s SAT score compared to the scores they originally had when they first started taking the C2 Education supposedly; improvement methodology. Bottom line, C2 Education in Davie Florida does a very poor Job and it’s very expensive, they offer no warranty after you spend over $12K. When you claim your money back or at least a partial due to their incompetency, they make up all type of excuses. Read less
C2 and similar places require tutors score like 2000 or 2100 and use the same material regardless of the level of the student.
If you have 2100 and are getting a tutor, you need a tutor who can score 2300+, although this isn’t the only requirement. You can find private tutors on Wyzant or Cragslist or go to an “Ivy” or other premium tutoring service.
