Revisits

So my mom Is having me choose two of the three schools that I want to go to to revisit. I already know one but now I'm stuck between Taft and middlesex. If you/your sibling/child go to either of these places could you give me some major highlights
Thank you

i dont know if you’ve visited Taft already, but I did, and I thought the campus was beautiful.I don’t know anything about Middlesex though. Taft was very nice though.

I visited both but attend neither. Both schools are great, it just depends on your preference. They are similar enough that you’d probably have a similar experience at each of them. Some of the obvious: Taft in CT and MX in MA… does that matter to you? Taft is about 100 students larger, but to me it seemed even bigger - the campus, the entire feel of the school - perhaps it was the layout of the campus. Taft really felt like a bigger school. I thought the buildings were beautiful. MX, maybe because of it’s circular drive and quad, seemed smaller and much more intimate. If I were looking for a smaller, more secure feeling then I’d choose MX. I’ve heard Taft described as a “Rah Rah school” - sounds derogatory but I think it just has a very enthusiastic, upbeat, everybody-join-in type culture. Both are wonderful in academics, reputation, matriculation, ECs and sports. MX is in a quaint, historic town, very close to downtown and Concord Academy. It is charming. Bonus: just a short ride to Boston!!! Great teachers. Great place to live. Taft is on a rather busy road, but that doesn’t affect the life on campus – it’s just a difference. I’d consider the location (big difference between MA and CT). I’d also look closely at their course listings. I’m not sure which is stronger in the math/science area and which in the humanities, if that matters to you. Knowing what your third school is would also influence which of these two I would go revisit. Sorry not more helpful. Congratulations on your acceptances - you can’t go wrong with either one!

We’re Taft parents. When my D decided on it - it was because it was not too large, not too big. It felt just right. Although she laughs that she’s lost 10 pounds just walking to the gym. The campus is huge but doesn’t feel that way since most of the academic buildings are connected. Think Hogwarts and you get some idea. Math, science and the library are across the quad.

What we got from our visits is that the students we met randomly in the hallway seemed to like being there and the faculty/student interaction was warm. There are many threads about Taft where we describe or talk about it. Give it a search.

Not every school is a fit for every student. But my D has really liked her time there but she works her “rear” off. Enthusiastic school is a good description.

We didn’t look at Middlesex so I can’t give you a comparison. But frankly - the schools talked about on the boards are fabulous - you can’t go wrong with any of them.
