Rhodes College or Trinity University?

I am looking to be a biology major and do premed and was wondering if Rhodes or Trinity would better prepare me for med school and ultimately be the better choice. I have heard great things about both and just wanted to get some input… any info would be much appreciated :-*

I have both of these schools on a preliminary list for my son who wants to be pre-med. Have you visited both? Wherever you feel more comfortable is likely to be the better school for you.

I highly recommend Trinity University. I also would encourage you to visit the campus, I think that will make a major impact on your decision. As an alum I can’t speak more highly about Trinity and what it has allowed me to accomplish. When I went to grad school I had a major advantage over everyone else. I not only was prepared to succeed at that level, but I felt like I was able to learn more because of my time at Trinity. I think what sets it apart is the professors. Some of my professors are now some of my best friends. I can’t tell you how many papers in grad school I have been working on that I sent to a former professor to give me feedback. I didn’t go to med school, but I had friends who did, and though I can’t speak for them on how Trinity prepared them specifically for med school, I know Trinity definitely helped get them into the med school of their choice. Trinity is a very competitive school, and you won’t find better academics or student life at any other campus. Like I said, I’d come and visit the campus, talk to a pre-med student. My visit to Trinity instantly sold me.

I graduated from Rhodes a few years back, and although I didn’t go pre-med track, a lot of my friends did. Without question, the pre-med curriculum is challenging, but unlike many of Rhodes’ competitors, the school (being home to several hospitals such as St. Jude and research centers like Buckman Labs, among others) is remarkably good at matching students with relevant internships. Students I’ve talked to say the ability to compliment their studies with a variety of internships helps both with Med School application and narrowing down on what exactly they’d like to do professionally. Lots of these people are now in Med School, performing research, or work in a related field. Certainly Trinity may offer all the above and move, but I can only to Rhodes!

I’m interested in learning about your choice! My daughter is making a similar choice – these are both on the list!

@FuzzyBunny89 I decided to go to Rhodes. I was very happy after I interviewed and did an overnight stay at the campus. The opportunities at St. Judes definitely did it for me. I visited Trinity as well and just didn’t like the campus feel / location as much as I did at Rhodes. Good luck in your college search!

Trinity has a brand-new science building that is amazing. I went to a pre-med information session for prospective students, and they provided a lot of information on how they support the health science students. if you have time to visit during one of their full day Saturday events, I think it’s called Trinity in Focus, you could probably hear the same information.
