Rhodes Scholars

Thirty-two Americans were named as Rhodes Scholars on Saturday. The scholarships provide for two or three years of study at the University of Oxford in England. Rebecca A. Brubaker of Swarthmore College was one of the scholarship awardees.

Rebecca Brubaker '06 is the winner of a Rhodes Scholarship for 2008, becoming the 27th person from the College to receive the honor and the fourth since 2000. An honors political science graduate, Brubaker plans to study to refugee and immigrant issues at Oxford University.
Brubaker, from Kimberton, Pa., attended Swarthmore as a McCabe Scholar, an award that recognizes achievement and leadership. During her senior year, she received a Fulbright Fellowship, which she used to travel to Cyprus to study conflict resolution and relations between the island's Greek and Turkish Cypriot residents.

That's very impressive. Kudos to her.

Swarthmore is proud to have two students selected as Rhodes Scholars this year–Rebecca Brubaker '06 for the United States and Andrew Sniderman '07 for Canada. Including these two, Swarthmore has had a total of twenty-eight Rhodes Scholars selected, five since 2000.
