Rhodes vs Harvard

Nah! I’ll just set up a hat outside and sing while people make donations!

The OP should go to Mount Allison University in Sackville, New Brunswick.

I came across it when I used to vacation nearby on the Northumberland Strait (highy recommended).

They have the secret sauce.

52 Rhodes scholars–the most per capita in the Commonwealth.

This out of a student body of 2,600. Top ranked school in Canada.

Town of Sackville has 5,000. Mean daily temp in January is 19 F.

Perhaps the low temperatures turn the students’ brains into superconductors.

“Ah, so not one of those south African countries where getting a Rhodes is relatively easier.”

I’m a South African. I find this to be intriguing (not my ambition, necessarily, but interesting nonetheless). Could you please elaborate?

Sorry about derailing the thread somewhat.

Perhaps this was a reference to this

http://www.rhodeshouse.ox.ac.uk/about/rhodes-countries/southern-africa

and

Four South African boys’ schools were mentioned in Rhodes’ will, each to receive an annual scholarship: the Boys High School, in Stellenbosch (today known as Paul Roos Gymnasium); the Diocesan College (Bishops) in Rondebosch; the South African College Schools (SACS) in Newlands; and St Andrew’s College in Grahamstown.

You’ll have to check the Rhodes website. South Africa itself gets 10? Something like that. With various pools of schools getting 1 each. Also, tiny countries like Lesotho get 1 each.

Alright, thanks for the clarification Xiggi and PurpleTitan!

Okay, OP, are you convinced yet of the parental attitude towards your quest? Enjoy your life, including whichever college you attend for the sake of learning, not prestige.

You could go to Rhodes University in South Africa, that will be enough to fool 80% of the population that you are a Rhodes Scholar.

The OP needs to put aside all consideration of Harvard, Rhodes, Nobel, et al. Those are clearly not exclusive enough–I mean look how many people have them, and they are handing out those Nobels like candy–not just to one person always but they give joint awards! And they don’t even pick a field, you can win in several different categories and then how do you know whose Nobel is better? Exclusivity is down the drain. Truly you need to limit yourself to accepting only awards which are given out to one person per year, or better yet–a one time award which no one else in the world has or can ever win? Now there’s prestige. Good luck with it.

what is OP???

Original poster. You.

Good one, and there’s also Rhodes College in Memphis, TN.

Interesting, OP asked what’s OP on another thread already? Are you sure you are Harvard material?

I actually thought that was the Rhodes in question when I saw the thread title.

This is one of the weirdest threads I’ve seen here.

That’s silly, DrGoogle. Not knowing a particular online acronym has nothing to do with one’s intelligence.

Pg, he asked that question before on another thread and people did answer him. He maybe intelligent but certainly forgetful.

I am sorry but I couldn’t find any such answers that you are referring to, Dr. Google.
Well, thanks a lot for providing me with this information.

Thanks Pizzagirl for being kind and analytical.

YPM, OP means Original Poster. Which in this message thread is you. It is message board slang like LOL is in
texting.

OK fine. I didn’t go through that post. Now kindly don’t make it an issue. I am really sorry for this mistake on my part to have overlooked that post.
Kindly use your valuable knowledge and experience to help me on my other thread called-“All Souls Prize Fellowship”. Thanks in well advance for your help.
