Rhodes vs Hendrix, help me please!

I am a senior in high school. I currently live in a small town in Tennessee about 4 hours from Hendrix and about 2 hours from Rhodes. I am interested in studying International Relations while I am in college. I am hoping to study abroad quite a bit. Several family members of mine have attended Rhodes, including my grandmother when it was still called Southwestern. She's 95 now, BUT I love Rhodes' campus and the feel of it. A few good friends I know are going, who I met at a Rhodes event over the summer. The dorms are pretty great. So I know Rhodes fairly well, but I want to know the value of the education and the experience there? I know Memphis is wonderful, but is there something deeper than that? (community connection, how are the people there?)

On the other hand, I have visited Hendrix twice and both times I really liked it. I thought the campus was lovely and the atmosphere was really nice. I like the sense of community that Hendrix seems to have. Many sources, including one person my teacher knows, say that Hendrix is a life-changing experience that contains personal growth. Personal growth is something that I strive for (I even wrote about that in my application essay). The Odyssey program is something that I like a lot also: so I could propose an idea like studying artifacts in Egypt that would be almost fully paid for? (cool!) Hendrix also does have a lot of liberal people and I like that. It has a sword club; I think that's awesome.

So, if you have any suggestions that would help a whole lot!

I have about two weeks left to decide.

P.S. Most of my family/friends think I should go to Rhodes but that's because (or at least I believe it is) they do not know/never heard of Hendrix.

I don’t know how much I can help but here goes. My S visited Hendrix several years ago, the memory of the campus, the visit and all the communication we had with them sticks with me still. He only decided not to go because of the ten hour drive. There was something truly incredible about the place and what they offered their students. Good luck.

Thank you! Any input is great. I find that very helpful… yes, I’ve heard that there is something great about the place.

D2 is in the same boat you are. In some ways those two schools are very different, but in other ways they’re very similar, and she’s having a hard time choosing. I can see her fitting in at either school.

To help D1 choose a college a couple years ago, I told her that one day we’re going to drive her to one of these schools and leave her there. Which one would you rather be left at?
