Some Early Returns on Early Admission

<p>With some colleges permitting students to wait until Nov. 15 to file their early applications, it is too soon in this early-admission season to draw broad conclusions on whether such programs continue to grow in popularity over all.</p>
<p>And yet, the preliminary estimates of some selective colleges with Nov. 1 deadlines are beginning to trickle in to The Choice, and they are worth passing along.</p>
<p>Among those colleges and universities with binding early-decision programs — in which those applying have consented in advance to attend if admitted — Northwestern is reporting that early applications increased by 24 percent, to about 2,100, when compared with last year; submissions to the University of Pennsylvania are up 18 percent, to 4,557; Duke and Johns Hopkins are each up by nearly 14 percent, having received 2,282 and 1,314 applications, respectively; and Rice is up about 15 percent, with about 1,000 early applications.</p>
<p>15% up! oh well… but the good news is that Rice admission officer told me that they will increase the number of the students. So hopefully, Rice’d admit more students under ED this time…</p>
<p>the increase is really good. We still trail our peers significantly in terms of gross number of applicants. Still, good step in the right direction</p>
