I want to attend Rice for undergrad business, which may not be a good idea. They don't have an undergrad business school and is not especially known for business. At the least, I'm going to major in business admin/management. On Collegeboard, Rice has that as a major but on the website, it is not listed. Can someone clear this up for me? Also, is it a good idea to attend Rice for business if I am planning to attending grad school for my MBA? Is it better to go elsewhere for undergrad?

No undergrad business major, only a minor. There is a buisness school but it’s graduate level. I’ve been told you want to major in something youre really passionate/interested in. So if that’s truly business, great. You can always study b as a graduate tho. That’s the advice I was given when I was disappointed about the no busi ba.

i would honestly not recommend doing ug business followed by an MBA. Sources in the industry have told me this is a bad idea. Get a solid foundation in SOMETHING then do an MBA.

And yes, Rice does not have a UG business degree

The only Ivy League school that officially has an undergrad business school is Penn, but every Ivy League school has consistently put alums on Wall Street and top business schools. Northwestern, Duke, Georgetown and others are particularly well-represented on Wall Street and top b-schools as well, but none of them have undergrad business schools. Neither do top LAC’s like Williams and Amherst.

Do you catch my drift?

Seriously. You DON’T need to go to an undergrad business school.

Even some schools with undergrad business schools don’t place that well on Wall Street, because of regional recognition, or other factors.

My entire post is assuming you want to go to Wall Street/a top business school…

Generally speaking - get a high GPA, get a high GMAT score, and network. That’s it, really. There’s no secret.

I know you have good intentions, but people, please THINK about this a little more. “Rice doesn’t offer business” - well, only 4 schools out of the top 20 schools in the country have an undergrad business school. Do you really think the other 16 schools have had none of their students go off into business/business school?

im sorry, but the question was about attending rice for ug business. Rice does not have a UG business degree.

whether he needs a ug degree is not really the question. I think everyone knows

Rice offers the major Managerial Studies which is comparable to undergrad business. But it can not be your only major and you will need to major in something else as well.

Managerial studies is an addon, almost like the business minor. If one is looking for UG business, Rice isn’t the place to go though
