Rice...and me

I'm addicted to posting my stats, and wondering if I'll get in. So here it goes! :-)

I would be appling ED.

How much is rank hurting me? Thanks in advance!

I hope you get in. If you can get in then I can get in!

LMAO....that is funny!

I think you need to work a little more on developing your ec's and take up more community service

grades are not the most important thing - passion is, so work on finding something youre passionate about and go all out on it.

I agree with EStherectu! Your extracurriculars aren't too strong. Is there anything your passionate about? Do you have any leadership positions? I would say Rice is a reach.

About your rank, it is really hurting you. http://www.ruf.rice.edu/~instresr/ricestatistics/

I think if you are a excellent student all around, say top 5% at a normal school or top 15% at a hard school, can write well, active in something to a significant degree outside of academics, and active as well in something intellectually exciting and interesting, you have a really good chance at Rice. I don't think the mystery of the excellent student who is competent by any standard with solid scores and EC's getting rejected from a top school really happens at Rice. Yes it has to happen to some degree (those who are borderline), but if you are a good package, you're likely to get in and surprises don't happen often (like they do at more selective schools). All the kids from my school got in who had their act together, and those didn't got rejected predictably. Rice puts a lot of emphasis on grades/rank, what grade are you in? It looks like you are a rising senior. Def a reach but possible.

18% admittance among people ranked lower than half their class?!?!?!?

daddy must be donating some money for those kids.

Well, yes, 18% admittance, but only 10 people total! Keep in mind that people can have other outstanding attributes or cough be really great at sports, plus it is only 10 people out of 1,821.

is that 3.95 weighted or unweighted (and is it on a 4.0 scale)?
If it's unweighted on a 4.0 scale, damn, ur school is really inflated.
In that case, I wouldnt worry too much about that rank.

That is weighted, which is all we do.

bump bumpty bump

nice ACT and SATs
but ur rank... and ECs are a lil weak.
hope you the best luck though

thanks so much!

So, basically rank is the only thing that is REALLY hurting me? What if I can barely get into the top 10 percent, but do? Like 20/200?

dont worry. a lot of people are overlooking the fact that you are hispanic (which is a good thing for u)
so you have a really good chance

Thanks for the comment!

RICE baby....

ditto Burnsk8er :)

I don't think your ECs are hurting you too much. Rank doesn't seem that bad either, considering it is a magnet school.

lmfao...........

I think the fact that you are from Texas is hurting you the most. I mean isn't it only something like 18% of people that apply from your state are admitted? I mean Rice is crazy about getting the out of state people into their school so they can get better diversity. The fact that you are hispanic will help but not a huge amount since that is one of the more represented minority groups at Rice. Your stats are really nice and your ACT score is much higher than mine but I would still say that it was a reach. I hope you are not offended by this as Rice is also a serious reach for me. Good luck and I hope that we can both get on here and brag come mid-December.
