I live in NYC and have never drank, smoked or taken drugs (am I not prepared for college?) Since there's so much to do in NY, people don't resort to those things as often as in less urban cities. From what I know, the 'burbs are heavier w/ the drug use.

rice is in houston, not austin...one of the common misconceptions. its OK!

if you dont do drugs, smoke, etc. etc., you'll still be able to find a place in college. Obviously, you can't be the only one who doesn't do all of that, so I wouldn't worry.

oh, and i would hardly call houston a suburb...though rice campus is rather suburban..lol.

QNYergirl, there have been lots of threads on drinking at Rice. Just do a search and you'll find more info than you could ever want.

As far as other drugs, they really aren't big at Rice. Its essentially only
pot, and that is much less popular here than it is at most colleges. If you want it you can definitely find it, but it is quite possible to pass your time here and not even see it going on.

Bill O'Reilley is good at what he does. Just because you don't like the Republican party, doesn't mean that you can ignore that he is present- EVERYWHERE. Everyone knows who he is, everyone knows who he represents, everyone knows what he says on his show the next morning. It doesn't really matter what he says, or how he says it, as long as he's noticed. He's noticed, people pay attention to what he says, and therefore, he has power.

You can say whatever you want about O'Reilly- he's twisted, demented, loud-mouthed, and most often, incorrect- but he gets people's attentions and they LISTEN to what he has to say. That's huge.
