rice/baylor interview

i understand what bill is saying though. when i was at the interview people were syaing "i got into this and that" and if i dont get this im not going here. i think this program should be restricted for people who verily appreciate the undergraduate experience at Rice. Rice must benefit too and should reward the ED applicant's commitment.

you get in serge?

i wasnt sure until today. i got this letter from them asking me if i wanted to be placed in the alternate list. i faxed it like 20 minutes ago with a YES but for the sake of brevity. na i didnt get it. Im glad that i got into Rice and that i was selected as a finalist. good job for the poeple that were selected. now im hoping somebody will not accept and go somewhere else although the possibilities are probably none (who would reject that?!!) so now i guess i will continue working hard like i have always done.

I'm in the same boat as serge...I just sent in the alternate form. If I remember correctly, all the finalists who don't get accepted are placed on the alternate list...but I don't forsee any spots opening up...oh well

well i hear last year 3 people came in from waitlist and then again not everybody accepts it. so there is a little hope :D

Just remember, plenty of kids from Rice get into med school who did not go through the Baylor/Rice program, so if you didn't get accepted you still have the option to go after Rice. (And you might want to go to med school someplace that has a winter!!!)

Abhi & Serge are you going to Rive is not accepted into the program?

yes i will be going to rice. i was accepted on early decision. i love rice!!!

Do you have to commit to Rice to be on the alternate list?

yes you do. The admissions people at the Rice/Baylor meeting on Saturday specifically said that in order to be on the "waitlist" you must commit to going to Rice in the fall.

yes you must go to rice. so people free to not go to rice so that cobalt and i can go to rice/baylor. ahaha. jk

you're in luck serge - i'm not going to rice though i'm an alternate ;) good luck!

How did you all feel like you did in interviews? i guess they were the deciding factor in ultimate decisions

Mine was less smooth than I had expected, but based on what I heard from other finalists, one of my interviewers was one of the more difficult ones... I was hoping that the fact that she was tough would be kept in mind when they read my evaluation but looks like it didn't do much. --not that my interviews were catastrophic though, I just didn't connect with them the way I did with previous interviewers for colleges.

i was surprised...i thought i had done so well and they even talked past the time limit and were like "i really enjoyed talking to you, you have alot of the qualities we look for"

yeah i had a similar experience...i felt like both my interviews went really well and i was really able to engage my interviewers...but i guess just about everyone had great interviews so they probably had a tough decision on their hands

yea dude i guess that was it.

Abhi and serge, don't be disappointed. I don't know any of you personally but it sounds like both of you have great personalities. I believe a lot of medical schools doors will be opened for you 3-4 years down the road.

I've been truly fortunate to receive a R/B position. I really hope to see all of you guys next year.

yea man i guess we will be taking the beloved MCAT and having fun in that room for 8 hours.
