Rice/Baylor Medscholar Program question

I am a Florida resident. I need your help to answer a question about in-state residency requirement. Will I be classified as a resident or non-resident when I attend the medical school at Baylor? Can you please help clarify this for me? Thanks much.

If you have been accepted to R/B, well done. The quickest way to become a resident of the Republic of Texas is to own a “homestead”. A condo in your name will do, no cattle required. If you move off campus at the end of your 2nd or 3rd year and can swing a small down payment and have a couple of students renting a room your net housing expenses will be the same as living on campus. I am told that after the first year at BCM the administration manages to have most students qualify as Texas residents, although I am not sure how they accomplish that.

Hi Wobudong, Thanks much for the info. I was informed the same. It is not too hard to establish TX residency. I am not sure what to do. Stay in Florida or move to TX? Which is good?

It is fairly difficult if you are a student and do not own property. Technically, if you do not own property (primary home) you have to reside in TX and work for one year without being a student. You can become a resident as a student if you own a condo and it is your primary home. I have been told that the administration at BCM is very helpful in having med students become residents, even if they do not own a home, but I do not know how they do it.

Any one know when the interview starts? In Feb or March? When announce the results?

Interviews are announced at the end of March like March 23rd or something…
