Rice Mail or Scam?

<p>I am a Rice admit. I received the following email today.</p>

DELIVERY STATUS: not delivered
SERVICE: Expedited Shipping
:<em>I am blanking this out</em>
INSURANCE: No </p>

<p>Label is enclosed to the letter.
Print your label and show it at the post office. </p>

<p>Important information!
If the parcel isn’t received within 30 working days our company will have the right to claim compensation from you for it's keeping in the amount of $12.77 for each day of keeping of it. </p>

<p>You can find the information about the procedure and conditions of parcels keeping in the nearest office. </p>

<h2>USPS Customer Services.</h2>

<p>A few questions:</p>

<ol>
<li><p>What does "We couldn’t deliver your parcel at your address." mean? Does it means that they could not deliver a parcel meant for me at my address, or does it mean that they could not deliver a parcel I asked them to deliver? I only delivered one supplement to Rice, and I used Fedex. </p></li>
<li><p>I am an international student. I have never used USPS before. I dont think there is a USPS Branch here at my place. What do I do?</p></li>
<li><p>I don't see any labels attached!</p></li>
<li><p>I googled and it seems that similar mails are identified as scam. But I would just like to confirm. Has anyone received similar mails as well? Did you act on it?</p></li>

<p>Sounds off to me. Rice has not mailed out anything other than emails, well… umm, since the initial big envelope. Did you receive that?</p>

<p>USPS stands for United States Parcel Service (regular US mail), so they are not overseas.</p>

<p>How would this company have your email? </p>

<p>It sounds not legit. You can always contact Rice to check though.</p>

<p>Yes, I have received the big envelope. It was delivered by Fedex.</p>

<p>I guess this means that I can ignore this?</p>

<p>The grammar in the last few sentences is absolutely atrocious. While admittedly I don’t hold the USPS in high regard, that sounds even below their standards. Am betting its phishing.</p>

<p>It’s almost certainly a scam. USPS wouldn’t identify itself as a company, nor would it be likely to confuse “its” and “it’s.” Actually, for that matter, I doubt it can email you about a delivery to you; it wouldn’t have access to your email address.</p>

<p>Also, USPS doesn’t charge a fee to “hold” undeliverable mail. Delete it.</p>
