Has Rice announced the dates for O-Week 2006? If not, when will they? When do freshmen sign up for classes, and will we have access to advisers? Also, is O-Week the only orientation/accepted students event (other than the Owl Weekends) that Rice offers?

O-Week starts Sunday, 20 August, and runs through the following Saturday. You register the Friday of O-Week, and there will be both students and staff available to help you choose classes (it's mandatory that you meet with a specific staff member before registering each semester at Rice). Attendance during all 7 days of O-Week is mandatory, and it's the only form of orientation offered. Trust me, you'll have a blast!

For reference, here is information on O-Week websites:

The official website is http://www.riceoweek.com and will be updated some time this summer. Each college has the option of making its own O-Week site (and I have links for those on the Sid site's links page--http://www.rice.edu/projects/colleges/sid/oweek). Each college also sends out an O-Week book some time in July.

For the most part, the websites are very bare-bones--usually just information about the advisors, coordinators, rooms at the college, and directions to the college, while the book contains the bulk of the information. Sid is an exception to that, mainly because I had time on my hands and made a much larger site than other colleges tend to do (it includes almost all the info that the book does). I should warn you that all the info on the Sid site is from either old or stuff that I wrote quickly to fill empty spaces, and most of it will be updated within the next few weeks. I'd say that other colleges will also start to bring their sites online within the next few weeks as well, once everyone finishes up with finals and move-out and whatnot.

All this kind of stuff is best taken to the Class of '10 forum. There are tons current Rice students eagerly waiting to answer all your questions. Many of whom(including me) will be o-week advisors this August. Last year we had over 300 registerd users and we are hoping to beat that this year.

Damn Ian, nice job on the O-Week website, especially the tour section. I'm impressed.

Graduation in two weeks... Kinda scared... Why won't Rice just give our e-mail addresses so we can make a facebook and not wait till O-week?
