u mean O week....owl weekend already passed

Can anyone describe Orientation week? I'm just curious and want to know what I should expect. Does it really last a whole week? Because all of my sisters went to state universities and their orientation was like one day.

if they say its a week.. why wouldnt it be? Its to help u get settled...

This is the 2005 website, but it'll give you some idea what to expect. In short, expect one of the most hectic, awesome, sleep-deprived weeks of your life.

The reason O-week is later this year is because school seems to be starting later this year. Also, Christmas break ends earlier. We've only been here one year, but the dates seemed pretty different for next year.

Whoa...winter break is so short...December 29th - January 8th. I thought at most schools it was about a month long. Is it always that short?

It's actually December 20th through January 8th. But no, it's not always that short. And if you talk to people here, you'll find that many of them are very upset about it.

O-week is always the week before classes start (Sunday through Saturday), and you are required to be there for the whole time. Not only do they cover a lot of important information, but it's also an incredible amount of fun--trust me, you'll have no problem with the fact that it's a week long once you get here.

Oops, typo, it's the 20th-8th. Well, that's something..Still, I'm curious as to why they would do that.. At the college in my town, winter break is always about a month, and I thought that was typical. Looking ahead for 2007-2008, Rice's break is getting continuously shorter, starting back on Jan 7th, then even the 5th! Otherwise, the Rice calendar seems typical, with classes starting in late August and ending in May...oh well, I guess I have to stop b*tching about it and just get used to it, though it is a little disheartening.

This thread is mislabeled... OWeek isn't Owl Weekend, it's Orientation Week (but it's really Just OWeek)... but Serge already caught that.

As others have said, Yes O-week really is an entire week. Don't worry, you'll love it. O-week is the first thing that makes you realize that you made the right decision in picking Rice. You don't just get thrust out into a college and forced to find your own way, you spend a week just hanging out and getting to know people and having a lot of fun.

sry guys my bad. how do i edit?
