Hey everyone! I was wondering if I could get some input on what you all think!
I was accepted to Rice, Brown, and Duke. I don't think Duke is the BEST fit for me, and I'm completely at a loss for Rice/Brown. Does anyone have any insight?

We’re going to need more detail to be able to tell you anything useful.

Ok well this is what I’m looking for: A great quality of life, great academics, friendly people, good weather, a lot of gay students, prestige, job placement after graduation…omg the list goes on! that’s the best i can think of right now. Honestly, I feel like i would LOVE both rice and brown.

Well, I think Rice beats Brown on weather for most of the academic year, but that’s because I don’t want to deal with cold, extended winters. Job placement should be pretty good for both schools, so you may want to consider whether you’d be more happy starting out with a job in Texas or in the northeast, since both schools have more pull in their own regions. I’m not sure about the absolute numbers of gay students at either school, but they are definitely present at Rice. The other factors are pretty subjective and kind of depend on your opinion on the college system vs. whatever they use at Brown. For what it’s worth, Rice usually ranks highly on The Princeton Review’s quality of life rankings, and I think the residential colleges made for an amazing undergraduate experience.

Hey mazzpaws, I’m kind of intimate with both Rice and Brown. I’m obviously at Rice, but my sibling is a Brown alum. He just graduated. I can tell you that from what I saw of his time there, he loved it; but whenever I’d go to visit him, I thought his college experience was pretty awful. I mean, sure, the kids at Brown are smart and the curriculum is “open” (WOW!). Rice has all that and more. I’d choose Rice in a heartbeat.

OP - what do you want to major in? This is critical to your decision

hehehe brown rice

Honestly, I want to major in biochem/neuroscience/nanotech. In which case Rice seems pretty solid =)

Biochem/neuroscience/nanotech? Are you kidding? RICE! Hands down lol

:D Good one

Brown is a great school.

That said, if you want to go into Neuroscience/Biochem, we might offer you more. There is an absolute plethora of research available in the fields (my friend does Neuro research at Baylor College of Medicine which is within walking distance).

Visit both and see how you feel.

“Honestly, I want to major in biochem/neuroscience/nanotech. In which case Rice seems pretty solid =)”

Rice has the edge in at least two of those (biochem and nanotech). So, Rice.

in terms of social environment, you’re choosing between “happiest students” and “best quality of life” haha. both from what i understand have good social life, in different ways though. rice has a more traditional feel while brown is definitely more liberal, not saying rice is overly conservative. there are gay students at rice but i bet u can find more at brown… in terms of your major though rice might be better
