Rice or Vanderbilt...

I pretty much have a free ride into a masters program at both schools. I need to know which one has more international recognition/prestige, solid alumni connections and better academics. Thanks.

Well, personally I'd rather go to Rice. Vanderbilt is too southern for me and the social life is dominated by fraternities. Rice is an outstanding school; very underrated.

Rice, but both are good. I say Rice b/c I have heard of it more....so that counts for some of the "prestige" factor

Which masters program? Graduate school is completely different than undergraduate ... so I think the specific program makes all the difference. Both Rice and Vanderbilt have great reputations. Houston and Nashville are both exciting cities. The "southern preppy" aspect of Vanderbilt shouldn't have too much impact on the graduate schools at Vanderbilt.

Yeah, which Masters program is it? Also where are you planning on working after completing grad school. On the whole, both schools are spectacular.

Econ MA. I want a program that will open doors and a degree that has recognition /prestige. I am not all about the prestige when it comes to the degree but mainly the doors it can open. I dont want to live in the states my whole life.

I've heard the Econ department at Vandy was pretty good.

What schools compare with Rice? What schools overlap with Vandy?

is this end of the thread?

Vanderbilt for Econ definitely.

Yeah in general Vandy is better in humanities while Rice is better at science and engineering.

why not go somewhere better - liike UChicago

or MIT or Harvard or Stanford

Hmm, maybe because it's hard to get in...

Maybe I didnt clarify this better..free ride...at a top 20 school. Rice and Vandy are still pretty darn good schools. I could proly get into some higher ranked ones but I would pretty much be on my own in terms of financing it.

Well, undergrad and grad programs are not entirely related in terms of quality, so two similar schools for undergrad could be completely different for masters. So...I pulled up the NRC ranking only to find that these two are ranked almost exactly the same for economics. Go figure.

Go to the one that is closer to where you want to live for the rest of your life.
