I will, of course, continue to work on all of the aspects of my application over the summer and throughout my senior year. How good (or bad) of a shot do you guys think I have at Rice?

Bump...anyone? I can take the heat. [:

Your UW GPA and class rank aren't the best, but work experience, your weighted GPA, being an IB candidate, and SATs make up for those, IMO. I would predict that while Rice is a reach, that you will get in. Definitely apply to UFlorida as well, as you are in-state so this should be a match. As a safety, I would go with Central Florida or something along those lines.

I am indeed applying to both of the latter schools, but of course, Rice is my dream school.

In that case, I'm sure that your essays will convey this, which will greatly increase your chances of admission. Make sure your recs are awesome as well. If Rice sees that you are an outstanding student at a competitive school, they will be eager to admit you :)

I was definitely planning on it, haha.

Also, chances on the following? I'll be sending in these applications if Rice rejects/defers me ED.

Stanford
Cornell
Duke
Johns Hopkins
UF
UMichigan
USC
Virginia Tech
Washington U

Stanford- High reach, I doubt it
Cornell- Medium reach, still doubt it
Duke- Medium reach, still doubt it
JHU- Reach, possible but not probable
UF- Match, you should be in
UMichigan- Match, you will probably make it in
USC- Low reach. I would say 50/50 on your chances
Virginia Tech- I don't know enough about their admissions
WUSTL- Reach, possible but not probable

Yeah, pretty much what I was thinking. Thanks. :)
