Rice University for Political Sciences

Hi Everyone!

I was wondering if you all could give me some advice on Rice University and its political science program.

I have done my own research and know off the bat that Rice is one of the best universities in the country despite its small size; and being located in Houston certainly does help in that regard as it is a major hub of politics and economics.

However, in my research through QS Rankings and US News, while Rice did rank highly in terms of overall rankings, it never made it on the list for political sciences. I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice or tell me something that I might have missed regarding Rice and whether it would be a good fit to apply. I like that they cover all need based aid, something that is quite nice on their part, but I am more interested in the quality of the political sciences program as well as other things such as the vibe of the region (I am from SoCal and have never been to Texas, but from the friends I have from there I can infer that it is quite a different place).

Thank you so much for you help!

I don’t know much about their Poli Sci department but Rice was one of the top contenders for my son and we were truly impressed from what we learned about that school.

As far as Poli Sci, they have James Baker Institute on their campus, every president speaks there and Obama is scheduled to speak this fall. I doubt many Poli Sci departments have access to prestigious think tanks like that.
