Rice University RD Class of 2020 Discussion **OFFICIAL THREAD**

Could you post a link to the Facebook chat or give the name? All my searches haven’t worked. Thanks!

@cjdiaz98 the Facebook group is called Rice University Class of 2020, there’s 2 ones student run and ones not…their both on private and you have to request to be added in

Accepted! Was not expecting decisions to come until April 1 so it kind of threw me off but it turned out pretty good haha.

Anyone able to view FA information? Thanks.

I know some people were having trouble but I could access mine at the same time as my decision just on the ESTHER portal

For those of you that have received FA, was it good enough?

Anybody hear from Rice/Baylor?

Anyone care to post their stats and what other colleges you were accepted/denied/waitlisted at?

My D got admitted but not awarded any merit scholarship. It is going to be hard to consider Rice though it is great school. Do any one know, if Rice decisions are final for merit award or will they consider if you request?

@WestCoastKid101
I have a 34 ACT and 2180 SAT, 4.3 GPA
Accepted: UNC chapel Hill, Georgia Tech, Boston College, University of Southern Califronia (with merit scholarship), Rice University
Rejected: Stanford and Vanderbilt
No decision yet: Emory, Dartmouth, Princeton, Wake Forest

@GoldenRock, I can’t agree with you more. Rice is my daughter’s top choice. Her other options are making it affordable, and Rice just isn’t offering a penny. If they could bring it down to the same number almost all the other schools have brought it down to, or even close, it would be a no brainer and she would sign on the dotted line. She’ll contact them soon and see if they could do anything for her. I feel so bad for her. She has some great choices, but this is really where her heart is. I hope things work out for you and your D!

@ImporTan I received about 41k in combined need based and merit scholarships, but I’m gonna try to appeal for more, because my parents really aren’t able to pay for the rest of the tuition, despite what’s shown on my CSS profile.

On that note, does anyone know how likely it is that Rice would give more need based aid when I appeal?

Dear GoldenRock, MuggleMom and AKDoug, I sure hope that Rice helps you. It seems that those who have true need should be helped. I don’t know the proper protocol for this type of thing, but it makes sense to me that you should be able to present your case to Rice on a personal basis, explaining why they should offer more help. I’m beginning to wonder, based on what you have said, that Rice might have a higher yield rate if more students from the middle class received more financial help. I’m discovering that the world of college admissions and financial aid is not at all as simple as I had previously thought or as rosy as the literature makes it out to be. It seems that if a student gets into Rice and their parents are doing everything they can, one would hope Rice would help them. I wish you all well.

@Maximilias I agree. Rice had a yield of 33% last year, whereas most schools of such caliber are around 50%. Unfortunately, I too will likely not be attending due to bad financial aid :frowning:

ImporTan, I hope you appeal and get a favorable result. Good luck.

Hey guys I think I read here that there’s a groupme for class of 2020. How can I join?

Does Rice send out acceptance packages? I haven’t received one yet.

@southeastkid
Thanks for the stats and congrats! Look forward to hearing where you decide on. You’ve got some great choices!

Yes, it’s a paper packet containing a folder with your official letter and some information regarding your chosen major.

Just got accepted to Dartmouth, and the online letter had graphics of falling confetti and party streamers. Geeeeze! Thanks for keeping it classy, Rice. I will not be going to Dartmouth.
