Rice v. WashU

I'm a premed having a really hard time deciding between Rice and WashU. Money is not a factor, since my parents are willing to pay for either. As of now, I really prefer the feel and atmosphere of WashU over Rice (I've visited WashU twice, 7 days total). In my opinion, the social scene at WashU is definitely better than that of Rice. However, from my Owl Weekend experience, the quality of classes/professors at Rice is better and Rice's premed is not nearly as competitive as WashU's premed program (while maintaining a comparable undergrad admit rate to med school).

Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated by both me and others choosing between WashU and Rice (from what I heard @ Owl Weekend, a lot of people are choosing between these two schools).

u know, I cant help you here. What kinda person are you? You have done all the research and have a list.. rice has this, WUSTL has that.. now sort them into Pro's and cons and then see which one has weightage.

I cant tell you whether you are a social person or not, just tabulate it and see :)

i guess what it comes down to is: how much does your "gut feeling" for a school matter?

yes.. that you have to tell us.

A comment on the social scene of rice...owl weekend is not a really good indicator. Partially because it depends on the sociability of our host, if you will. From what I've heard, there are tons of cool people there and all you have to do is meet them.

ps. good luck!

uhm...rice has the med center. although UW has a good medschool. when i had my rice/baylor interview they said that they admit about 30 or something people from rice which is a huge percentage of the entering med class which means that rice= good pathway to BCM.

^ i definitely agree. However, did you know if the 30 students accepted to BCM included the 15ish number of rice/baylor students? but nevertheless, it is still an impressive number regardless.

it is not including the 15 already included for the combined program which means that the BCM class has alot of undergrads from rice. the students that were there joked with it too...they were like when we came here we were like "and u are from rice too: yea, and you too! yea" and so they ended up seeing alot of the premeds there. Dr. Michaels in the admssions comitte talked about how rice was a wonderful university and how they ended up taking alot of rice undergrads. Baylor medical school clearlylikes to favor texas residents since it lowers the tuition for them and looking at the number of students admitted last year 72 were from texas and the other state with the next higher number was 8. and which would u say is the best texas university : RICE

thanks for the input guys, i'm going to rice next year!

great... Ill see you there :)

thats great man...glad we could help
