I have been accepted to Rice and Wash U for biomedical engineering, but I don't know which is more preferable. In terms of strength of medical program, Wash U is better, but Rice is located in Houston, one of the largest cities in US. Location seems to be important. Any opinions? BTW, I am an international student. Thank you in advance.

Just in case, Wash U refers to Washington University in St. Louis. (many people get confused with University of Washington)

If you’re hoping to go towards medical school, I can’t recommend Rice enough. We have a fantastic undergrad advising center for premeds, and the Texas Medical Center across the street is the world’s largest and absolutely loves Rice kids for both research and clinical experience

I can’t speak on WashU, but Rice’s biochem and bioengineering departments are extremely solid.

I know WashU has a residential college system, but Rice’s is older (IIRC) and seems to be more established and a prominent part of campus life. When it comes down to it, you really need to find out which school is best for you. I highly recommend taking part in both Owl Days and WashU’s equivalent.

At this point, you cant go wrong with either one. I would choose whichever one is better for you financially and which one you like more. Also, you are going to get slightly biased responses posting on the Rice forum, so dont rule out WashU St. Louis if you get very Pro-Rice responses here
