Um, I'd wait until you hear back from Rice. Rice actually gives good aid. But if it's really full price at Rice vs. Northeastern full ride, I would go to Northeastern.

Tough choice, since they're very different schools. Think about whether you want a larger or smaller school. Think about location and weather. Whether you want to do a co-op or not. Also, does prestige matter to you, or more imporantly, in regards to your intended career (although, it could and most probably will change)? That's not to say that NEU is a bad school, it's an excellent institution; it's just that Rice is in a different league. Also, would your family have a problem paying full price for Rice?

I can say Boston is a bomb city, but I would probably choose Rice, just because I feel it would be a better overall fit for myself.

I'm international though... And rice gives limited aid for intl' students... and I assume I'm not in the top 10-20% accepted internationals that will actually get financial aid...

1."(although, it could and most probably will change)": Haha, why do you believe that??

My parents are able to pay the full price for rice, but then again the NEU's offer is very appealing, it is totally free... it's something that will definitely make you consider it as a serious option..

I'm not sure how Northeastern does their merit aid, but it's impressive that you got a full-ride as an international. =]

NE for sure!! Even though Rice is a GREAT institution, as an engineer, it will make less of a difference where you get your bachelor and will not justify the difference in the price tag.

Hahaha I get the feeling that everyone is trying to convince me to go to NEU so as to have greater chances of being accepted to Rice for themselves!
You can relax though because I'm not that competitive anyway..

It's pretty soon to tell, but I'll most probably pick Rice between the two... I'm not very much into the co-op thing, Rice has top-notch engineering and I like the fact that it is much more prestigious and significantly smaller that NEU. Who knows, maybe I'll get something from Rice too, although I find in highly unlikely...

"Hahaha I get the feeling that everyone is trying to convince me to go to NEU so as to have greater chances of being accepted to Rice for themselves!"

im sure that wasn't in anyone's mind... except maybe yours.

Whether you go to NEU or not, people will still have the same chance of being accepted. I think everyone here was just trying to be helpful and answer your question.

I was just kidding - don't take everything too seriously!!
Thanks for your answers anyway..

If you're looking at it from an economic point of view, keep in mind that you can probably get a higher-paying job with a Rice engineering degree because it has such a great reputation. Also, Rice is much cheaper than most private colleges. So the price difference may not matter as much in the long run. (since your parents will be able to pay anyway)

Pano, I made the comment about career switching because it is very common. The majority of people I have befriended in college have at the very least switched their major (including me).

If your parents can afford it comfortably and you prefer Rice, go to Rice. If it will be a strain on the family income, go to Northeastern. :)

If it comes down to NE $$$$$$$$$$$$$ vs Rice with no $... easily NE is the right choice.

But I doubt that you'd get no money. They say they give limited aid to International Student but that does not mean no aid at all...

If the difference in cost between NE and Rice for you is $30,000/yr. You have to decide whether you want a degree from Rice or one from NE plus $120,000 in the bank for you to use when you graduate.

Don't count your chickens until they hatch. Wait a couple of weeks first to get Rice's decision... who knows, Rice may or may not make your decision for you. (shrugs)

hotasice what you say is definitely true, but i started the whole post based on the assumption that i am accepted at Rice...

Haha if Rice is not an option then DEFINITELY Northeastern becomes my first choice!

HOW"D YOU GET A FULL RIDE FROM NEU? :oooooooo gimme
