Hey guys! Right now I'm trying to decide where I'm going to go to college, and I'm stuck between Rice and Stanford. Here's my dilemma

Rice advantages: They gave me $17, 500 per year; it's close to home (I'm from Dallas), I could possibly be accepted to Medical School (I'm a finalist for Rice/Baylor), and because I save money for college, my parents could help me pay for med school so that I won't have any loans when I graduate

Stanford advantages: It's a top notch school, it's an AMAZING opportunity, there's a lot of diversity, it opens a lot of doors, beautiful campus, lots of study abroad opportunities

Any advice would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

What made me smile is that the all the advantages that you cited for Stanford apply equally to Rice:

“It’s a top notch school, it’s an AMAZING opportunity, there’s a lot of diversity, it opens a lot of doors, beautiful campus, lots of study abroad opportunities …”

I’m curious to know how many Stanford profs connect as closely to their students as some Rice profs do – providing research opps, guiding them to fellowship awards, inviting them home for dinner, sending emails about shared interests, attending their club events … And how would dorm life at Stanford compare to belonging to a residential college at Rice? Quarters vs. semesters?

Cristinamaria, you’re choosing between two top-notch schools with amazing opportunities, lots of diversity, that open doors, beautiful campuses, and lots of study abroad opportunities … and that’s not an easy choice unless you seek out the differences.

If you don’t get into R/B, then it is possible for Stanford to have an edge here if money’s not a huge issue for you. But if you do, then I would give Rice the clear edge.

if money is not a big issue i’d say stanford. rice is great too but rice still has some way to go before matching stanford completely.
but if money is a huge concern for you i’d say rice would be a good choice for you too. being premed here is great since you’re so close to the medical center

Visit both and decide. Don’t listen to people on a webforum to tell you how to make one of the most important decisions of your life.

Ultimately, we’re a TOP NOTCH school too.

I say Rice due to the financial aspect. Save the money for later, as you will be going to medical school. Rice has one of the highest med school acceptance rates in the country.
