Rice vs UCLA: does size really matter?

I've managed to narrow down my choices to rice and ucla. The prices will be comparable within 5000 of each other. I am from Ca and the proximity of la offers some definite advantages. I am wondering if i will be sacrificing a more in depth undergrad experience to attend UCLA. I know that ultimately it will be my choice. However, I am attempting to get information or thoughts and in the end make an informed, educated decision about where i will be spending the next four years of my life. Any info would be greatly, greatly appreciated. Is the weather really unbearable in houston...heard its terribly muggy and humid

Like you, we’re from CA, and my daughter was making exactly the same decision last year. We also worried about Houston weather. That’s turned out to be a non-issue. In fact, my daughter loves the weather. It was pretty hot and sticky the first few weeks of school, but even that was bearable. This month, she’s been talking about how nice it is there, warm with a breeze. Definitely not the issue we thought it was going to be.

As for the UCLA v. Rice choice, they are so different in so many different ways. It’s really something you’ll just have to decide based on which feels right for you. I hope you’ve had a chance to visit both. Good luck with your decision. They’re both great schools.
