I have been accepted into RIce (no scholarship) and USC (half off tuition) , and I have to decide in 5 days where I want to go. I attended owl days, and loved the school, and visited USC for half a day. I really like the idea of living in LA, but my priority is to attend an ivy league law school. Does it matter where I go to school, do Yale and Stanford look upon Rice way more favorably, or is it all about what I do and not the school. My parents have told me that they will pay for school, and not to worry about tuition.

Generally, I don’t rec’d an undergrad choice based on an intention upon attending a prestigious law school because so much will change while you’re an undergrad, but here you’ve narrowed your u/g choices to two. Law schools care mostly about GPA and LSAT scores, not undergrad school. Learn to write well wherever you go. Involve yourself in internships and ECs. Be concerned about carrying debt into law school since law school is soooo expensive. You might favor USC under these circumstances. But, no, no one at the law schools will give extra points to Rice over USC. I have no horse in this race.

both schools are great. Neither will be an advantage for LS, which is all about GPA+LSAT. Note however, that Y & S are both small law schools, so EC’s matter for those two. In contrast, Harvard Law has a large class, so the numbers are nearly all that matters for that school.

LS is mighty expensive – save the money? OTOH, Rice will be a different experience since it is smaller and in Houston.
