I have been accepted to both Rice and the University of Texas at Austin's Plan II Honors program. I want to major in Biology or some other related major, and these are the two main schools I'm looking at. The problem is that Rice is costing me about $30,000 per year (with scholarship) while UT is about $20,000 per year. Is there a difference in the type of education I would receive at either school?

Not really. Plan II has small class sizes and is in the honors dorms (the ABC dorms), which function a lot like a residential college at Rice.

Plan II is cheaper, plus you'd be in Austin rather than Houston and have real sports.

Rice has a better reputation, is a lot smaller and comfortable, and is very "quirky."

Rice is a bit more prestigious, but UT's plan II is a great deal for its cost. Where is the $20k number coming from? Are you out of state? Because UT is more like $13k for in-state students as a total.

no, costs have gone up, and it comes up to about $20k a year now when all's said and done. With those prices, I'd personally choose Rice, but only because I love the small-school feel. The difference in actual quality of education would probably be negligible, it's just all about what you're looking for in a school.

Rice has a better reputation

Well, if you look at the undergrad peer reputation scores, they're actually both the same - 4.1. And UT has the much stronger overall reputation due to the strength of its graduate programs. But Rice is very good too.
