Are there limits to the amount you can upload/download every day? Are torrents blocked? Please be honest, thanks!

No. Yes. (but there are always ways around it.)

is there any network filesharing, like dc++? how much is it used?

so are things like limewire a no go?

limewire will not work. torrents do work, but i kinda desisted after getting a copyright infringement notice :S

Limewire and such will not fly, and torrents are tricky. I know someone who was caught and “suspended” from using Rice’s network for 48 hrs I believe. I know others who torrent everyday without problem. If you’re going to risk it, make sure you know what you’re doing.

i mean, the only way rice catches u is if the company sends rice a notice. Rice doesnt actively police anything

so if u dwld random movies in chinese or wtvr, big deal. u pirate from NBC or summat, they kick ur ass

so is dc++ used at rice?

Honestly, if you want to download something, go somewhere off campus that has wifi and download it there. Like Starbucks or something.

This is all ■■■■■■■■. All you have to do is connect to the Visitor’s network and they’re much less likely to “catch” you. And set all your Limewire settings to private (i.e. no sharing).

If you know what you’re doing you’ll have the same chance of getting caught at Rice as you do of getting caught on your home network.

thats true because the visitor has a dynamic IP

its slower though, a lot slower
