Isn’t UF and FSU already raising tuition 40% above other state universities?

^ You are referring to Tuition Differential. This qualification was based upon the Carengie Classification for Research Universities. UF & FSU are labeled Research Extensive.

Yes UF & FSU are aloud to raise tuition 40% above and beyond the other State Universities over a 3 year time span. USF, UCF, and FIU are allowed to raise tuition by 30% above the other State Universities over a 3 year time span because they generate over $100 million in research. In essence: FAU, FGCU, FAMU, and New College did not qualify because they did not have a strong research classification by the Carnegie Foundation. But if they improve their overall research expenditures in the future then they will then be able to charge more in tuition.

It takes alot of money to have powerful research universities. Now if only the rest of the members of the Legislature could get the message.
