Ringling Feedback: Illustration, Safety, Campus Life

Sorry to hear you weren’t a match with Ringling, but better to find out now than when you’re already there. Awhile ago, you asked about MCAD, and I posted some links and pm’d you. Did you ever check them out? My daughter and her friend walk all over, they can go to downtown and hang, (Target, some department stores), or walk to various restaurants, coffee shops, music places, etc. Bus system and light rail to the Mall of Millenia, altho they don’t go there much. Within the last 2 weeks they had a field trip to the zoo, and snow tubing, which she said was so fun. She is never bored there!

Hi Goodschoolhopefully, I’m glad you enjoyed getting out of the cold and snow! You are right…you do need to find the school that is a match for you! College is a big investment not only of $$ but life as well, so you have to be able to picture yourself living there for a good chunk of time and being happy! That’s why I think that gut feeling of belonging someplace is so important. When you find that place you will be counting the days, hours, and minutes until you start there! My daughter loves NYC and we spend lots of time there, so maybe SVA will be it for you. I know kids who are very happy there! As a parent I would have no worries about sending my kids to school in Manhattan. I hope you keep us posted on your search! Good luck in finding the perfect place for you!

After D had her choices narrowed down to 2 schools. she decided she wanted to throw SVA into the mix, and asked could we go visit. No time or money and I said that she would have to be walking down the NYC streets carrying all her stuff from the dorms, snow, rain or shine, and that pretty much did it for her. But I do have to say, their view book was ssoooo tempting!!

Their internships are impressive as well as student work but yes I am considering your point^. Will still look just the same with a revisit to Pratt.

you should come during winter, not today that supposed be 60s but dead winter that wind from the river would make your panel/paper pad fishtail this way and that, and those people would never budge to give you right of the way, if you carry more stuff even more so.
then you will see all these thing “only in NY” every seconds.
I just read Maira Kalman’s interview on inspiration from living here in TO-Kids. will see if I can find the link. Her show will be on March sometime, don’t worry, it is still be winter here if you like her work and want to time your visit.

of course almost never the link to the articles I want to post available in their sites that I could copy and paste.
it is on March issue #64, page 41, Art&Museums
for those wondering why we should read TimeOut kids, I make toys but let that aside, it is this concise window to the lives of “in” or “think they are in” NYC parents of young children = biggest disposable income holder and constant consumer of big tickets items, from $1000 storllers to Broadway show, art and sports camps, etc etc. In other words, those who move this city follow this magazine, thou they do not admit it.

Q.how does New York influence your work?
A.It’s unendingly inspiring! The range of energy, fashion and artifact, from a broken chair on the street to somebody’s incredible suit. It never stops.
