Riots at Berkeley

Does anyone have kids attending? Is it students or outsiders causing the problems?

Please consider the news source.

@rosered55 is CBS better?

Looks like some students are turning violent because they don’t want to even let an opposing viewpoint be heard. Free speech only applies if they agree on what is being said?

I hope the students there stay safe and no one gets hurt.

Snowflakes can’t stand heat–source was fine but another

Yes, CBS is a better source.

Better than CNN anyway

Here’s the SF Gate

They seem to be trying to justify the riots. 8-|

Keep in mind free speech equally applies to the students right to protest…unless you’re of the opinion students shouldn’t be protesting period to voice their disapproval of the speaker and the content of his message.

And if the latter’s the case, aren’t you then advocating for the denial of the students’ free speech rights to protest this speaker?

@cobrat There’s a difference between protesting and rioting, protesting is fine but breaking doors and widows and starting fires, throwing fireworks in buildings is not covered under “free speech.” Protesting the speaker is fine, using violence to prevent him from speaking is not OK.

Don’t call people snowflakes.

CNN is a respected news source, Brietbart is not. Just because certain leaders bash CNN doesn’t make it so.

Good for Cal. Nice.

Must not be snowflakes then, if there are fires involved. ;))

CNN, CBS, SF Gate, and Breitbart are all reporting basically the same thing with a slightly different slant I really don’t understand why people are questioning the source when they are all saying the same thing.

Can’t we all agree that there is a violent riot going on in Berkeley?

I guess you like rioting … if it’s on your side? Disgusting.

@cobrat This was not a peaceful protest of a controversial speaker. From the Berkeley news website:

http://news.berkeley.edu/2017/02/01/yiannopoulos-event-canceled/
Also we are assuming the protesters were students, but many of them wore masks so who really knows who they were?

I’m sure some here are going to argue that charges of rioting at UCB constitute fake news. A few months ago, Berkeley snowflakes were blocking white people from using a bridge, shouting at them to walk the long way around, while letting people of color through.

This isn’t a free speech protest. This is a dangerous criminal destructive riot and I hope the participants are arrested.

It looks like there was both a group of peaceful protesters and a group of violent masked ones.

http://news.berkeley.edu/2017/02/01/yiannopoulos-event-canceled/ says:

Unfortunately, this type of thing is not new, in that there are some whose goal is to start violence at someone else’s peaceful protest. Some of the violent protesters apparently attacked some of the peaceful protesters as well the police.

“Protesters” with masked faces that start violent, destructive riots are really domestic terrorists and should be dealt with accordingly.

This does not apply to this…otherwise it would be alright for the speaker to destroy property and endanger lives as part of his speech.

Speech by Breitbart Editor Canceled as Berkeley Protesters Start Fires, Break Windows

Protesters hurled smoke bombs, broke windows and started a bonfire prompting University of California at Berkeley officials to cancel a talk Wednesday by a polarizing editor of Breitbart News out of safety concerns.

@cobrat Unless you think it’s ok for a speaker to do the above in the name of free speech protest, then it’s not ok.
