Rise in tuition each year?

I understand that each year tuition seems to rise or at least somewat significantly one's junior year... first i would like to kno if this is true and to wat degree (meaning is it a significant increase?)

It certainly seems that tuition and/or room & board rises each year! Go to the websites for schools in which you are interested and do a search for tuition/fees. You'll be able to get a feel for it that way.

SOme schools actually increase tuition in junior and senior year above the yearly school wide increases.

Can you lock in the cost of college during your four years some way?

Some schools offer the option of prepaying 4 years of tuition at the first year price per year. If you have the money, it might be a good bet. Personally, I can't even imagine being able to do that :)!

Kelsmom-YiKKKes Me too. Way to much to afford.

GW has a fixed tuition program where tuition is guaranteed to remain the same as freshman year for 4 years - or maybe even up to ten semesters, I think. You don't have to pre-pay to lock it in - in fact they even have a very nice payment plan where you can spread annual tution payments over 10months for a very small fee and No interest added.

From the research that I have done to see what the average annual tuition increases at other private universities might be it seems reasonable to plan on at least a 6% increase per year. When I ran the numbers at 6% it added about $12 K to the total 4 year cost of one of the other schools my D is considering, bringing the 4 year total cost much closer to the GW 4 year cost (even though the tution is substantially higher at GW).

GW also awards at least a portion of your Financial Aid package as Guaranteed grants - so once they are awarded and confirmed you can depend on them staying the same for up tp 10 semesters, as well.

The combination of fixed tuition and guaranteed grants really help you to know exactly what you are getting in to and be able to plan accordingly. I don't know if there are any other schools that offer fixed tution - but I think it is a great plan.
