Rising Junior Dreams

I'm looking to see how I compare to the schools that I dream about as well as for advice about other matches/safeties I could apply to. Please rate each of my schools as Reach/Match/Safety or use some gradient scale. :) Thanks!

honestly, you don't have a chance at any of these colleges, except maybe that Sucky-State-School.
everyone has your stats-they are too weak.
you will fail miserably.
GPA, PSAT, ECs, and class rank need MAJOR work.
Gosh, who do you think you are?
;P

bump . . .

I think you're as strong an applicant as they come. That AIME score was the biter for me.

Even though you're a strong applicant, you're in a sea of other strong applicants. Maybe I should instead say that you're a shark in a sea with many sharks.

The question about Stanford is not only one of legacy, but one of money. Does your family give a considerable amount of money to the school? If they do, then your chances there dramatically increase.

As it stands, I think.... (organized in order of what I imagine is likelihood of admissions)

**edit: you're a female. New predictions!

Princeton-- Matchy Reach
MIT-- Matchy Reach

Stanford-- Reachy Match
Northwestern-- Reachy Match
UChicago-- Reachy Match

Harvey Mudd-- Match
UMich-- Matchy safety
NYU -- Matchy safety (a top-ranked OR program, I think)

Sucky-State-School (safety safety)

i wanna know the kid that's #1 is

as a fellow rising junior I am crushed to be in the same applicant pool as you.
you are, compared to all the people witnessed on chance threads, near the top of the top and unless you commit a felony or get your name in the papers for some other negative reason, really, you've got it made.

have fun at the law office!

Thanks you guys :) Are there any other schools that match my interests that would be nice matches or safeties? Do people know more about OR program rankings? (and unalove, just out of curiousity i'd like to see what you'd put if i were a male ))

About Stanford, my parents don't give significant amounts of money, but my dad does recruiting trips for his company (a large Fortune 500 company) and gives lectures once in a while. Unalover, since you seem mathy, you might have heard of George Dantzig, the mathematician? My dad gave a talk at his 90th birthday celebration at Stanford and I got to meet him. :) But yeah, we're not rich enough to give considerable sums of money to Stanford.

and Hollyert- I bet you've got a great resume of your own :P

I'd like to know what the 'sucky-state school' is...

you are on the right track..study those sats, take another subject test (history for diversity, maybe?), go for #1..
you being female asian and from an overrepresented state doesnt exactly help, but whatever.
As a fellow 09er, keep up the good work, and leave all options open!! the state school could be a good option with an honors program, merit aid, etc..you might like it :)
good luck

you have a 90% likelyhood of getting into Caltech from SSP, just informing u
