Rising senior interested in UT-Austin

Hello, I am a rising senior. I live in Minnesota and attend the top-ranked private school in the state. I have no clue if this is factored in or not, so I thought I might as well put it out.

My school is an incredibly hard and time-consuming school, and many of the students who have graduated have gone on to attend some of the top universities in the country, as these schools know about the prestige and workload of my high school. Again, I have no clue if this is factored in at all.

My school does not weigh the GPA, so I am sitting at a 3.33 GPA, which is bound to increase after this year. I took/am taking APUSH, AP GOV, and AP Chemistry. I would have taken French all 4 years of high school by graduation. I got a 30 on the ACT, and I am planning to take it again. I am also planning on taking the SAT.

I am very interested in The Bachelor of Science in Public Health program at UT-Austin

My E.C’s are:

Over 100 hours volunteering at my local hospital.

Work at a local grocery store

Model UN - went to the WIMUN conference in New York

Varsity Basketball senior year. I would have played for 4 years.

Varsity track senior year

Leader of community service board. Pretty much I am in charge of deciding on service products that the school should invest in to help people within the MN community and the worldwide community.

I was in student government freshman year.

Aside from that, I am planning on taking AP Calc AB, AP Biology and AP statistics next year. Would you guys recommend that I start getting in touch with people at UT-Austin, as well as colleges that I am interested in.

Thanks!

Sidenote: My high-school does not rank students.

Thanks in advance!

A good indication of whether your school’s prestige is considered by UT is whether other students from your school have been accepted there. UT says they do not care but there are definitely schools that get more students in via holistic review than others so who knows.

Just know that UT can only accept so many students from OOS making it very difficult to get in. No OOS student can consider it a safety.

You should also visit if you can because Texas and Minnesota are very different.

Admission will be tough. Your grades are likely just too low. You can apply to UT but it will be a REACH school. I’m sorry to be negative, but I’m sure with your credentials that you can find many attractive degree programs to consider.

UT Austin is expensive for OOS so make sure you can afford the tuition.

Thank you for your comment!

I will look into that, thank you!
