Rising Seniors--Ready to Start Applying?

I’m going to start writing the UC application essay this summer, but not now. I’m enjoying my break.

For the Common Application, I’m waiting till August 1st.

Yeah… I haven’t been doing a thing.

I’ve actually been really behind with my college search and preparation. I took my first SAT last Saturday. Being Canadian, I had no idea how common (or how preferable it is) to take the SATs before the very end of junior year, simply because if you do badly the more chances you have to retake.

Have you guys solidified the list of schools that you intend to apply to?

^^Heck no. I have a general idea, and I know I’ll be applying to some schools (NYU, U British Columbia), but I don’t have a “list” as such.

Being on CC makes me feel like I’m far behind everyone.

No. I have a good idea, but that list is about 12+, and I told myself I’d cut myself off at 14 schools. But I keep liking more and more schools…errrr

I have it down to UGA, UF, and Vandy as my “reach”. I have a few crappy schools as my backups.

It is gettingn so expensive just to APPLY to schools. I plan on applying to 7 colleges and I ranked them from 1 being the school I mainly want to get accepted to, to 7 being a safety…

 1. GWU
 2. AU (American)
 3. USC
 4. Pepperdine
 5. University of San Diego
 6. University of Denver
 7. ASU

And I agree with coollege, I always tend to find new schools that I like! So I have no clue haha. I am also starting to think that I should apply to maybe 8 schools instead.

^ASU is one of my safeties too (along with UofA, even though I hate Tucson).

I have a general idea of colleges I want to go to, and I’m looking at some this summer. I’ll definitely be applying to Northeastern University (my top choice and match school), University of Texas, NYU, William and Mary (don’t have much of a shot, but my dad went there and I love the campus, so I figured I’d try anyway), and probably Belmont University and Middle Tennessee, along with some other colleges in Boston.

But right now it’s a very loose list…

I think I have the list pretty much in order. A lot kind of hinges on how I do on Saturday’s ACT and I think I did very well the SAT June 5

For me, probably the schools I’d like to go to the most are:

Georgetown

USC

Notre Dame

Miami(FL) (hoping for $24k+ merit aid)

Michigan (highly doubt I end up here, OOS is just too expensive)

Maryland

Alabama

Florida State

Tulane

Then a couple other safety type schools like Dayton, OSU, LSU. Might take LSU off.

Then I’m on the fence about schools like Emory, Vandy, Navy, UGA, Northwestern, Cornell, Chicago, UF and a couple dark horses.

But if I get into one of my first four and get reasonable aid, I’ll probably just go to one of those schools. With my stats, it’s not that unlikely for me to get into all 4, which would make the decision 10X harder for and I’d probably just decide where I’m going to go by which one is the cheapest after aid and everything.

But I’ll probably get rejected from 1-2 of my top 4 schools, I’m most worried about Georgetown and Notre Dame. USC I feel like I have a reasonable shot and UM I know I’m pretty much in for sure, just depends on what kind of merit aid I’ll get.

But out of all the campuses I visited, I liked Bama’s the best, so hell, I wouldn’t mind going there.

gosh I just can’t believe we are already here

I’ve been planning to write most of my essays and finish the common app during the summer

but realistically, I’m probably gonna be procrastinating for as long as I can manage

As an Asian with asian average academics and lacking ECs (when i say lacking, i mean ZERO leadership and NO consistency, unlike many people on this board), I don’t know where I will have a chance at, but it’s worth giving it a try. I still don’t have a list; I’m gonna be doing most of the research over the summer

well. Here we go class of 2011. The time has come. Ready to be class of 2015?

Here are my tentative plans:

MIT (EA)
UChicago (EA)

Yale
Harvard
Princeton
Stanford

If I don’t get into either MIT or UChicago early, I will change my second group to:

Yale
Harvard
Princeton
Stanford
Brown
University of Illinois
UNC

My plans so far:

Princeton, Harvard, Yale -> forced into applying to these

Dartmouth, Bowdoin, Davidson, Middlebury, will add a few others -> school I am most interested in attending

UPS (Puget Sound), U Denver, Colgate -> likely schools so far

West Point -> LOVED it so much when I attended the camp this past week. Definitely one of my top choices. It’s also nice that it gives me a reason to start my application process early!

I thought you can only EA to one school?

^ Only if it is restrictive EA.

How harsh is the Uni of Chicago acceptance rate?

I don’t know the numbers off the top of my head, but I know that it fell significantly this year. It has a pretty self-selecting applicant pool, though, so its acceptance rate doesn’t indicate very well how competitive it is. I would definitely put it among the top-ten most selective schools.

^^^^

It’s falling.

FBItomboy. Yeah my friend was at West Point last week and he loved it too. He’s applying to Navy and AFA as well, but he seems to have it down to USMA and USNA. I’m kinda trying to steer him to Navy, but I don’t want to push him there, especially if I don’t go there.

Good luck!

I heard that Uni of Chicago was a 40% acceptance rate 3 years ago, so it’s probably… 32%?

^ I checked; it’s 18%.

That’s weird, maybe the website was wrong. It was dated 2006, so it probably dropped significantely.
