Rising Seniors--Ready to Start Applying?

Yes, they received 40% more applications this year than last.

Definite:
Stanford/Yale (REA/SCEA)
Princeton
Harvard
Penn - Wharton
Dartmouth
Duke
Chicago
Rutgers

Possibly:
Brown
Northwestern
Cornell
Berkeley
Columbia

If accepted to either Stanford or Yale EA, I’ll only apply to Harvard, Princeton, Wharton and Stanford/Yale(whichever I don’t apply to early) RD.

:O was UChicago’s acceptance rate seriously 18%?? I feel so 1337 now haha =D

^^ @Jersey13:You should also include some safetys & matches that you’d like. Just in case  [like if you don’t get enough fin. aid or waistlisted/rejected].

I’m going to apply to:

University of Minnesota-Twin Cities

a bunch of random in state schools in my state like MN state-Mankato

Howard University

George Mason U

Virgina Commonwealth

Towson

Goucher

Old Dominon

But I’m going to be a transfer after 1 or 2 years (for multiple reasons):

University of Virgina

University of Maryland- College Park

Howard University

Columbia University

Duke

or

Georgetown

@FBITomboy007: Colgate sent me a free t shirt with a greeting card over winter break :)

Seriously?? You guys are so spoiled >:O

^ I’m sooo serious. I just talked to a Colgate rep. once at a college fair ( her stand was quite empty LMAO)…I filled out my info w/ everything…then they started sending me mail…then during winter break one of the deans sent me a Colgate Tshirt along w/ a handwritten greeting card. Yes, handwritten.

I called back and left a voicemail msg for him thanking him & telling him I will definitely be applying there next year! (i guess not).

I think it’s b/c I’m black and they could maybe use some more minorities…LOL.

Rutgers is my safety and I am basically guaranteed a full ride there. Some of the schools on my list I would consider on the verge of being matches. However, to avoid conflict, I usually classify them as all reaches.

I’m still trying to gauge where my SATs and grades compare to the schools I want to apply to.

So far (some combination of)

 1. Harvard
 2. Columbia
 3. UPenn
 4. Duke
 5. Johns Hopkins
 6. Brandeis
 7. Tufts
 8. UVA
 9. William and Mary
 10. U Chicago
 11. VCU
 12. JMU
 13. Rutgers
 14. Mary-Mount Manhatten

So, yeah. I’m not going to apply to 14, probably just 10, so any advice which 4 to cut off?

^^^ lol I got accepted there and they only sent me a book about Hiroshima haha

^ I don’t know what your major is, but drop Duke regardless; also:

Choose one of each:
UVA, Rutgers, or W&M
JMU or VCU

^ so…you would have rather gotten a tshirt than the book?

Yes, I agree.

^^ lol yeah. I don’t really like WWII history, plus I only got it after being accepted

-MIT EA
-UChicago EA
-U of MN- Twin Cities -rolling admissions, applying as early as possible
-UW-Madison
-Stanford
-Northwestern
-Cornell
-Princeton
-Carnegie Mellon
-UC-Berkeley
-Rice
-Swarthmore
-Carleton
-U of Michigan
-Brown

I haven’t finalized my list yet.

^ If you are a competitive applicant for top schools, why are you applying to so many match schools? Are you looking for big merit money?

I’m pretty sure I’m applying to the following:

Rutgers University

Princeton

Stanford University

Swarthmore College

Harvard University

University of Pennsylvania

Yale University

Massachusetts Institute of Technology

Brown University

University of Chicago

Columbia University

Cornell University

and TWO of the following…

University of California–Berkeley

Emory University

Georgetown University

University of Virginia

Amherst College

Barnard College

Johns Hopkins University

University of Michigan

George Washington University

^^ I’m not sure if I’m going to apply to all the schools that I listed. I’ll probably cut out one or two of the out-of-state publics. Also, I’m pretty sure most of the other schools I listed are not matches.

As of right now, I’m applying to:

Princeton (just for the hell of it, I know I have little to no chance of getting in)
William and Mary
Gettysburg
Dickinson
UVA
Bucknell
Washington College

And a few safeties

We were required to write our college essays for english class this year, so I have one written and will start editing it this summer. Where I will be applying:

-Brown ED
-Penn-Engineering
-Caltech
-Cornell
-Dartmouth
-MIT
-Carnegie Mellon
-Stanford
-SUNY Binghamton
-Drexel
-RPI

I’ve still got to visit some of my east coast schools, but here’s my list, in order of how much I like them
Brown
Vassar
Barnard
Bard
Whitman
Skidmore
Drew
Lewis and Clark
University of Washington (in state) or Southern Oregon University (Western Undergraduate Exchange) or Oregon State University (offers full-IB diploma scholarships + I could graduate in three years)

Still trying to pin down which schools I should apply to as financial safeties…UW is a great school, but very close to home and I really don’t want a huge university and I don’t like the surrounding area. Southern Oregon is inexpensive and small with a great theatre program and an adorable little town, but I don’t know if it would challenge me academically. Oregon State is in a great town, I love the atmosphere and cutting off a year would make it about the same price as UW and I’ve heard great things about the honors college, but it’s also a really big school and there’s not as much of an arts focus, and although I don’t necessarily want to be a theatre major I do want to be involved in it. Meh. If money weren’t an issue this whole process would be so much simpler. I love all my LACs (+Brown) and I know I’ll get into at least one of them…

I have to fill out a senior self-evaluation before the school years ends (weird how it’s supposed to be done during junior year despite the name). I’m going to give teachers advance warning for recs. This may end up being what will happen next year, depending on how visits go:

Boston College EA
Case Western Reserve EA
UCONN (maybe EA)
Fordham
Rice
Conncticut College
Johns Hopkins
And maybe another
