My D was accepted last week to Syracuse’s Arts & Sciences, even though Newhouse was her 1st choice. Today she was accepted to Penn State College of Communications at University Park. She wants to major in Film & TV, does anyone have any knowledge of Penn State’s program compared to Newhouse’s?

^^Penn State has a great program with great placement…can’t compare it to Newhouse but I do know kids there have been very successful getting internships

Thanks Rodney for the info on Penn State, we’re going to take a tour of the communications program next month. My D still has her heart set on Syracuse though. Do you know anything about the learning communities at Syracuse?

My D is a sophomore at SU (Newhouse-Whitman) and was in a learning community freshmen year. It was for Whitman students. I would recommend the LC’s strongly - there was a great camaraderie on the floor with lots of trips and a great opportunity to get close to the faculty advisor. These kids are still her best friends. She knew what dorm she was getting into (small rooms but great location). Her LC actually had a 1 credit course attached to it so some of the activities were mandatory but I don’t think that is true of the others, so your D could pick and choose what she wanted to do.
By the way, we encouraged my D to join this since our older son was involved in an LC at NYU (diversity) where every American student was paired with an international student as a roommate. He also had a fantastic experience.

Thanks TWOPARENT, Did your D continue with the L.C. program after freshman year? Did she have another dorm the following year?
