Hey, this is my third time trying to write a college admissions paper, and none were working before. So I tried to be more realistic and open. I moved to South Africa from New York almost three years ago, and it was really tough for me. I don't know if this paper is too risky, but its about a part of me. Still, though, I don't want the admissions officers to to think I'm mental or don't adjust well, and I'm not sure if talking about myself cutting will lead to that impression or honesty is appreciated. I wrote it because its a part of who I am and my journey. My essay is about cutting myself, and how I was coping with it during my move. I don't know if thats too much (or if it is explicit because I talk about bleeding and using a blade.) Any opinions on such a topic will be really helpful, thanks!

A) Seek the professional help that is needed regarding your “cutting.” B)Try a different topic for your college app essay . . . JMHO.

thanks for your advice! but i have stopped, which why at the end of my paper i kind of reflect on it and tell what i’ve learned through my experiences.

If the essay’s done or whenever it is done, I’d like to read it. Writing on that topic is fine if you do it very tactfully.

Taking the right sort of risks in your college app can pay off big time. But you need to come off as emotionally resilient by the end for that too happen.

It could maybe work if you what you focus on is recovering from it and moving forward and your strength in it, NOT on the actual cutting or anything. These essays are supposed to show your strength and character, so telling a story about cutting has to focus on that aspect, not just give the facts of what happened. Good luck!
