RIT for fine art?

Anyone know about the fine art program at Rochester Institute of Technology?

How about fine art at the U of Hartford?

U Mass Dartmouth?

Is it worth looking at Parsons for fine art?

RIT for photography

Parsons for photography, communication design, fashion and pretty much everything besides fine art.

can’t say i know anything about the other two.

S has been accepted at RIT with substantial merit scholarship…mainly for academics. We know little about it other than it has a nice mix of tech/art/craft so fit his interests. He is considering minoring or at least taking lots of classes in computer science as well as focusing on sculpture and animation. The multidisciplinary possibilities at RIT are intriguing but his different interests are housed in different schools so we need to find out more about flexibility of mixing and matching. Their facilities look amazing. Tuition is much less than the competition and they do offer good aid. Their mailings have been thoughtful and useful rather than just a deluge of brochures. The big downside is the weather and, by repute, the campus culture of excessive male geekiness. May go visit this month.

we looked at Parsons for fine art, my S didnt apply there, my H and I didnt like it either.

I had to LOL at this!!! This makes me take a look @ this school for my daughter! It would be so nice not to have the distraction of “cool” boys to look at! <g>. But then my DD brings a whole new meaning to “Geek Chic” as she describes her look. And us being from Oklahoma, well, inclement weather is a way of life, although this might be a bit colder than we are used to.
Thanks for starting this thread. It’s one more to add to our list.</g>

fammom, meet zoomom ( and her D), I really want to match making now!

There is some stale chatter on the RIT forum…seems to me that girls have a great social situation going on at RIT but only if she finds anim

My artistic daughter comes from fine geek stock - dad a software engineer, mom a tech writer. I don’t think that part will bother her. I was just wondering about their fine arts dept. - is it any good? What do people think?

They are having an open house in a few weeks, but it is 6 hours away from us and it would be hard to go (on a Friday - we’d have to take two days off).

Get some of the lit from them…they describe course of studies, links to faculty websites, success of undergrads in job market…etc. It is hard to tell the quality…
It is in the top rankings for the graduate schools particularly in glass, multimedia and photo.
[Multimedia / Visual Communications - Fine Arts - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-fine-arts-schools/multimedia-visual-communications)

Neither RIT nor Parsons are particularly known for fine art though they are both well respected for design and photography. If someone wanted to be the next Annie Liebovitz, Parson’s and FIT would probably rank highly on their list. If however they fancied themselves as the next bruce nauman or kiki smith neither school would even be in the top 20.

thought she went SFAI?

and more like right time/ right place thing, no? if she was at NY, she couldn’t have got the RS job while still a student.
yes, I am Annie fetish, that’s why it killes me why was she so $ stupid?

Sounds like D’s boyfriend. I’d been thinking about suggesting this school for him when he’s done with CC. He’s into engineering, robotics, etc.

FAMM should have taken over Annie’s $$. Maybe she wouldn’t be broke :-)

yeah, then let me be friend with Annie, I will carry her camera bag and blush her hair, polish her glasses (no, I am not that kind, or maybe, donno anymore)

I’d brush and polish for the right price!

Duh, L and R again, brush hair blush cheek. brush blush brush blush I got it (I think)

Ok, it is maybe that I wanted to be Susan Sontag, not so much of brushing Annie’s hair.
Or Gertrude Stein and Alice B, Virginia Woolf, Margaret Wise Brown (Good night moon) all the air of book-y ness class-y ness, coud be sicko but super smart women -ness
I lived more than half way and nothing of that sort ever crossed my path… pity pity

But you have 1/2 way left to go. Never too late, you never know.

I’ma half empty glass (not grass, grass is green next door glass is what you drink and stuff glass grass glass grass…) kinda people, but thanx

I’m on the half empty glass side myself, but figure it’s never too late to do anything. Was working on my second bachelor’s when I was 40 and pregnant, then did my masters when I was 43 with 3 yr old. Was planning on doing phd before I die, but not so sure - will maybe just take some German language classes for fun.
