RIT vs MSU

I’m not sure which school to go to. Michigan State has everything that I want, but RIT has a phenomenal coop program, and my parents love it. MSU is Ranked better but RIT still has that Coop. What should I do!?!?

Which one feels “right” to you?

idk @dbjs70

MSU is ranked better than RIT by what metric?

You can’t, in my mind, beat the opportunity afforded by the co-op program. It’s one of the reasons my son chose RIT.

Have you visited both schools? How did you feel about the campuses, the students you might have met, the tour and what the programs offer? What about school size? Out of class activities?

@dbjs70 I visit both. I did the Spartan Day at MSU for accepted students and the WE (Women in Engineering) Retreat at RIT. I loved MSU and I could really see myself going there. RIT didn’t seem to have much going on. At RIT we sat through a boring class. When the other girls and I came out, all of them were freaking out that they had no idea what the class was about. I was literally the only one who came out understanding anything… Also, when I stayed with one of the students, she said that most people have not taken calc. I feel that as an engineering student most people should have already taken calculus. I prefer working with people smarter than myself. I learn better that way. I am slightly concerned that I will be one of the “smart kids.” I also want to go to a really big school with big sporting events.
TBH, the only reason that RIT is even being considered is because of the co-op.
I did not get into most of my top schools for engineering so that just leaves MSU, Drexel, and RIT. Drexel is too expensive.

Idk what to do

Sounds to me, for you, MSU is the pick then. If the only reason you liked RIT was the co-op I don’t think that’s reason enough. I’m sure MSU must have some sort of internship program through career services or similar offices.

Thank you so much. This really helped. @dbjs70
