What exactly is this? And I can't find the application for this, so can someone give me a link or some info on how to apply? Is there a deadline at all?
Sorry for so many questions, but the website was so vague...or I wasn't on the right page...

I don't have much to offer, but, I thought this was something that a school had to nominate you for. I didn't think it was one you could just opt to apply for on your own.
Am I mistaken, anyone?

You need to nominate by your school. In California, they look for straight A students with high SAT or ACT scores.

Even though it is a national scholarship, each state sets its own criteria. You can search past threads about the Byrd to find more information. Also, your counseling office should have application information. In Texas application is made in the spring.

It is a national award.
Each state has it's own rules and requirements
In CA each HS nominates 2 people, in my DDs year the state put people in order of UW GPA, so all 4.0s before a single 3.99, then in order of SATS and awarded until the money ran out somewhere in the 4.0 1260 range.
Thus a 1260SAT with 4.0UW got the $ but a 3.99 1600 did not.

It is a great award to check out as most financial aid depts will reduce your loans first so it becomes free money

I recall reading that federal law changed in the last year to restrict the Byrd scholarships to students majoring in math or sciences. Be sure whatever you're looking at is current.

No, the program was eventually reauthorized intact.

Go to ED.gov to find State contacts for the program. ( Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship Program - State Education Agency Points of Contact )

Midwest Mom, and others, there was an attempt to change the Byrd qualifications, but as far as I know they have not changed. There is another thread about the Byrd scholarships, which I believe I started, and which got added to over time, that is found on this same Financial Aid Forum. You can search back a few pages to find the discussion about it which took place a few months ago. In that thread there is the back-and-forth about the changes, with links, but the final links seem to say that nothing had substantially changed.

If you do get the Byrd, you should know it must be rebudgeted every single year and the fall payment is generally late (last week!) as they wait for the federal budget to be approved.

There is a lot of political posturing using this one!

So the application/nomination is not out yet? Cause I have 4.0 GPA w/ SAT and ACT scores in the 99th percentile so I hope that I'll get nominated. I hate these nomination things, cause my school's counseling office is so clueless about everything and misses all the nomination deadlines

Each state has different procedures for this scholarship. The application for your state may be out, you need to check. I would suggest that you check the website for your state's Dept. of Elementary and Secondary Education (may have a different name in your state). Also google Robert C. Byrd Scholarship + (your state). If you don't mind disclosing what state you are from, someone might be able to give you more specific advice.
