Which one is best for UNC chapel hill instate? Please tell me the differences. Are they only for UNC and Duke or can I use them for other colleges like Emory? I only know that the Robertson travels summers with groups rather than individual with the Morehead-Cain. I like going as a group better. Please tell me with upmost detail about the differences of each and which I can most benefit from as an instate UNC chapel hill applicant. Thanks

Most of the differences are clear by going to the websites. Getting a Morehead-Cain or a Robertson is difficult. The application and interview process for Morehead-Cain is particularly grueling and takes place over a 9 month period. Few make it past the first interview. If you have outstanding academics, athletics, and community service you have a shot of getting your foot in the door. But, you must interview well in order to continue. Connections and ethnic diversity helps a lot. I know less about the Robertson.

My son had no connections, and no ethnic diversity, OOS, first at his school to get it - so it does happen - I’m referring to MC.

Biggest difference - MC is only at UNC. It is not “through” the school, but run by an organization that is affiliated with the school. MC - you must be nominated by your school - as in state - or you can self nominate, as I understand it, if you are from NC. I know at least one in my son’s class who self nominated.

Robertson has a separate application - and you must fill it out and send it in for both Duke and UNC.

You may not go through both processes at UNC. So to try for both - you would have to apply for the Robertson at Duke, and try to get the nomination or self nominate for MC at UNC. OOS kids have to be at a nominating school for MC - or hope that the admission committee pulls their aps from the general pool and refers it to MC. This is where ethnicity may help for OOS kids who are not at a nominating school.

And GT Alum is right - most of this info is on their web sites.

MaterMia - I mentioned ethnic diversity and connections help, but certainly not necessary. Congrats to your son! D was a finalist.

As you know - even finalist is a big deal. Congrats.
