Question: Who is/was he???

Robin Olds - Wikipedia
Robin Olds - USAFA Folklore
Robin Olds - YouTube

What the numbers don't reflect is that he was one of the most well-loved, respected, and talented figures this fine nation has ever produced. Just an amazing guy.

 Mustache

Ooook, that would be why my 2* friend facebook-friend-suggested him to me. Gotcha. Thanks!

really, a 2 deg did that?! lol

Robin olds was a great man. it's fun to diss each other's classes, but when it comes to examplars, they were all great people who did great things.

P-51 Pilot = I like him. ;)

indeed. i only meant to imply that they would perhaps have first suggested frank luke. but i jest.

Wait, just kidding. He's a 3*
Wow. My bad.

Have to ask this...have any of you ever met this guy personally, especially the female sex?

I have met him...in an O'Club situation and he was the speaker for our dining out at the 90th (I believe it was the 50th anniversary). This man is a phenomenal flier, but he is a pompous a** who believes women have no plcae in the military and loves the glory of his story...Yes he still has that moustache.

His talent in the plane is undeniable, his attitude as an officer is a different story

Bullet will probably be angry at me for this post, but to me he ranks with McPeak

Just an opinion now throw it in the circular filing cabinet.

bulletandpima - Robin Olds is 2011's Class Exemplar and died while 2011 was in BCT. In my opinion, your comment is inappropriate.

My apologies for offending anybody. I did not mean to insult/offend/injure anybody. However, with that said I believe he was an amazing flier, but I place more respect on being an officer first. Gen Olds was a great flier, he deserves every ounce of respect from the world for his accomplishments. He, however had a very rigid opinion of women in the cockpit and had no problem speaking his mind...to him women can't cut it...he actually told a female pilot (not the 90th) that she was inferior to him...paraphrasing, since it was 10 yrs ago...Darling...why don't you do me a favor and do what women should do... just get me my scotch...on ice...this was a young capt. who only wanted to shake his hand out of respect. I was standing next to our Wing King, his wife and the 90th Commanders wife...we all wanted to crawl into our own skin. He also went onto offend our squadron commanders wife by asking her why am I talking to you?

Interestingly enough he was our guest speaker and our squadron paid for him to fly to AK and put him up.

Again my apologies for any offense, and I truly have respect for what he did as a flier, but being a great flier doesn't make you a great officer. I will always put the officer before the flier. I am sorry, but I did meet this man and his opinion to women and their place in the AF was offensive to me. Just so you know...I am not a fan or supporter of female pilots. I have my own personal issues that yet have been resolved(i.e. the female pilot 5'3 115 lbs pulling out the WSO at 6 and 200 lbs out of water...she gets pregnant and does not know it what does the g-suit do to that fetus....I also believe that as a woman we should not have to run at a slower rate, be real here, there are many girls that could outrun a lot of these guys. By saying that they need an edge it plays into the inferior aspect....as a woman I want to be judged against everybody regardless of sex. I am a supporter for every female that passes the reqs for a man, we as women should never allow the reqs for women to be what we rest our laurels on...if we want to play with the boys than we need to shut them down. I truly believe we can do everything in a physical fitness test at the same rate as a man. To get equality and respect we need to say I ran the mile at xxx what did you run? I did xxx pullups and you did how many? When a jet crashes you need to be able to assist your crew/wing mate...passing a test that is lower requirements may result in not being able to pull them to safety. I lived through his as a spouse...what if Bullet is unable to move, can she pull him...afteralll her reqs are lower and he i @6 ft and 200 lbs, I know he can pull her. Now I live with the fear of our DS.

I have absolutely no problem with women, I am proud of them and believe their adrenaline will save those that I love, however, I would love to get rid of this belief that women need an edge or assoistance. I want us to be seen as an equivalent and not how the old school saw us...in the cockpit because we got special treatment

Is Olds the exemplar for 2012? I was hoping for Boyd, but no one asked for my vote.

no, he's 2011's.
we don't find out ours 'til recognition.

Well, before this thread gets out of hand and goes to the women in the military (I think Pima's point can be debated in a thread not about Robin Olds), I think the question is also answered.

MomofHopeful2011, are you offended because a comment not favorable to a dead man was made? I don't understand what was inappropriate?
